But that game against Italy, as long as I can remember, it was the best performance by a Mexican Soccer Team.

It was a good performance.

I swing back and forth as far as what I hope for Mexico.

Sometimes I want them to go 0-3 and get outscored 9-0, but other times I want them to represent our region well and get out of their group.

What do you hope for the US?

Well, they probably find it funny, because it would be a modern miracle for the US to win the World Cup.

I just really hope the US beats England, just to see everyone in Europe try to blame it on the ref, injuries, etc.

I think its funny that a lot of people voted USA because they dont tend to do very well in the worldcup.

UK Does better but still rarely looks good enough to win.

I personally think Spain is going to come up tops.

Is it just me or are the yanks morei nto the WorldCup than the europeans on this forum? Its almost sad that they dont stand a chance and are making such a fuss about it :P

Americans, as a whole, don't care about the World Cup. Because Americans, as a whole, don't care about soccer in general. Even if the US beats England (which I doubt), it won't generate much more attention, because the sentiment here will first be "lolwut?" "HELL YEAH I TOLD YOU TAKE DAT DAMN LIMEYS WE RULZ0RS!1!111", but that's just the patriotic side kicking in - guarantee they won't watch the games against Algeria or Slovenia. The ONLY way America will care is if we win a game in the knockout stage. Then you'll start getting more fans - but still insignificant compared to even a random weekday baseball game. If, by some twisted miracle, the US makes it to the semis, or even the finals (LOL), THEN we'll care.

Also, let me point out that the games here are on ESPN, which means if our team DOES start doing well, they'll promote it TO DEATH. And basically try to cram it down our throats.

Exactly. I actually find it a little irritating that the UK tend to overdo their patriotism when it comes to the world cup.

I want us to win of course, but i dont start crying or beat people up when we lose a match.

The Americans have never been that big into football (Soccer) I believe that the games to watch out there are American Football and Baseball. Neither of which are very popular here so im afraid i dont know much about them.

Im not a typical brit though because the only sport i like watching is football during the world cup. Every other time i dont like football lol

Americans are so blindly patriotic that if I were to create a poll of which ingredient is the most important in a Caesar salad, and threw in a curved ball of USA, the USA would get more votes

Romaine Lettuce
Croutons
Lemon Juice
Olive Oil
Egg
USA
Worcestershire Sauce
Black Pepper

That was funny.

I'll be curious to see what the reaction is to the US team here. They are kind of in a damned if they, damned if they don't.

Americans are used to "winning" at the international level, so when the men's soccer team goes three-and-out, like the last World Cup, then everyone rips them.

If they somehow beat England or win a knockout game, then everyone will act like it is old hat and that's what they should be doing and not appreciate just how big of a deal it is.

Of course, there are lots of folks in the mainstream media that hate soccer and will be waiting to shred the US team.

Also, the England game is on in the middle of the day here, but for large swaths of the country, the other two are on very early in the morning. That is going to kill ratings.

Yes... we're used to winning everything, hence the under-reaction. Sorry about that.

It shows the many, many, MANY, US people on this forum who are so blatantly in love with their country that they would vote for "USA" in a poll regarding the best ingredient for salads. I mean c'mon - 8 people! How can as many as 8 people vote for the US? That's insane! God, I hate self-absorbed overly patriotic Americans!

If I didn't vote for France, I would've voted for the United States, not because I think they're gonna win, not because I have patriotism, but just because I wanna piss off the Europeans.

Really need a like button! AOG Thats just epic. Im surprised there are still self absorbed English people that think their nation can win anything when we whoop em in the Olympics every year. I didnt vote US but everyone knows England couldnt win the world cup even if an infectious disease came about and took away all the legs of every player on the other teams. Sadly they are terrible. 8-)
