Napoleonic Europe 1812 in Map Foundry

Postby jefjef on Wed Jun 09, 2010 8:17 am

Hi all!

Kabanellas and others have put together a superbly beautiful and strategically intensive game map for our enjoyment.

As far as I and others see it is ready to receive it's "stamp of approval" and be moved to Beta.

Unfortunately it seems that the map is NOT being allowed to move forward due to personal game play "tastes" and fickle legibility "concerns" by those who issue the approval.

Stop in and look at the last pages and see a work of art created for our enjoyment only to be held up for ???? and post your comments...

Thanks a lot Jef! I really appreciate it!!!!!! It's that kind of support that keeps me hanging in the foundry.

C'mon CC lets show our support! Show that you care about this game we play. We can't do anything about crap dice and drops but we sure can influence the maps we play!

While you're at it, why don't you also visit and comment the ~20 other maps in the foundry that could also use the support of the CC population.

This is also agreeable. We need to let the foundry know what WE would like to see.

nd unfoed.

This is not true jefjef
The map was already stamped for gameplay, then the gameplay is ok.
I don't want to speak for someone else, but I assume that saying "I remain unconvinced that the concerns about over-complexity have ever been addressed. Graphically, this is a very good image (and as I've previously stated, the artist is one of the better ones around the foundry right now), but I fear that the game board still requires some reworking, for concerns that have been raised and not comprehensively addressed." MrBenn was referring to how the gameplay is represented on the map, not the gameplay itself.

Moreover, there are some other graphics issues not solved, for example the colorblind test doesn't look so good...

No one wants to hold the map, don't worry ;)

You have to do it! More comments mean always better maps. :D

I don't understand how Benn sees this as overly-complex or how the complexity isn't well-represented on the map.

I stay away from complex maps...but I was truly looking forward to playing this one. Some of the maps on this site make absolutely no sense to me, even after playing them, and this one seems quite easy compared to them.

I really do think you're all missing the point (I know for a fact that jefjef is missing the point, as he rather pedantically showed in the map thread). Gameplay complexity is not the issue here, visual complexity is. Anyone who says "looks just fine to me" is missing the point, since the small map does not yet look fine to a significant amount of people. Plus there's a pretty major colorblind issue. And to be honest, GD is not really the place for this discussion, nor are transparent populist yawps an effective way to comment on a map.

this thread doesnt belong here, although I agree with you now anyway...

This would be like me taking a C&A thread to general... I wouldn't do that, And I have crazy balls of steel...

You believe that those clowns in C&A get it right.... Well I believe that those clowns in map foundry get it right... jsut comment there and let the map take its course/.

Then there are three of us.

This thread can stay for now, but if this turns into an extension of the foundry discussion it's getting locked faster than you can say "send toast to ten tense stout saints' ten tall tents".
