Most far fetched excuse of the WC 2010.

You what? :-s It's an excuse that shouldn't even be needed, seeing as Holland should have had a corner moments before rendering it needless. Are you some sort of moron?

Did you realize how clueless you are to resort to ad hominem or you're irrecoverably blind? Holland should have played with a couple of players less after the first half hour if the ref had balls, instead he stretched it out giving yellows to everyone. So your claim that Spain's goal (that could have happened sooner had Iniesta tried to shoot in his two previous opportunities) is only due to Holland having one defender less is ridiculous enough to wonder how you can give such a biased statement while apparently not dutch. Spain not winning this game would have been a joke.

Anyway while overall this WC was pretty good this was definitely the worst final since '90...

Again you seem to have amazingly missed my point. I can't be bothered to explain AGAIN that Spain WERE the better team (just) and I was only commenting on the end of the game, which was in part ruined by a player obviously cheating (i.e. Iniesta). The goal shouldn't have counted as Holland should have had a corner moments before.

If you're looking at players that should have been sent off during the game, try this list:

Puyol
De Jong
Iniesta
Van Bommel

(in that order of seriousness of incidents)

What an absolute dick you are to not even read my statement. Asshat.

And the volunteer mods on this site once again prove how much class they have. Well done!

And in order to stay on topic: Netherlands deserved more cards than they got. I started the game cheering for them to win, but midway through the 2nd half changed over to Spain as I was disgusted by the amount of dirty plays and whining they did. It was embarrassing to watch.

in my opinion neither team deserved to win with how they played.

i was disgusted at my side about the fouls they made, yet spain was far from free from it either.

but the worst part imo is that we didnt lose the match fairly. how can a ref miss a corner, then miss a foul, and then(possibly, stil not sure about that one) miss an offside play.

if de jong would've gotten red for his karate-move and we'd have lost 3-0 i wouldn't have minded that much. but it just seems so crazy that the game had to be decided like this. holland didnt get a corner they where expecting, then seconds later spain commits a foul on elia, which aint seen, and right after that spain goes on to make the goal, with ~2 minutes left.

but ah well, i'm probably just being a sore loser at the moment, it sucks when you're so close to finaly winning that cup, and you fail for the 3rd time.

I hope you aren't talking about the goal. That was not even CLOSE to offsides. The complaining the players did to the side officials after the goal was, yet again, another point of embarrassment for the Netherlands.

Ok. A rant:

First of all, FIFA knew before the World Cup that the ball had issues. After the first round everybody was aware. Even then it was possible to change the ball, for all football fans in the world. You and I know why they didn't even think about it because we are used to our shitty greedy world, in which FIFA might be the greediest, but for us, who pay for everything they get, they should've changed the ball.

C'mon, even Cristiano Ronaldo who is one of the players that kick the ball the best always sent the ball to the bleachers. Messi didn't score, and if the plan was to have more goals, well, they fucked up, because the ball actually made players to miss the goal.

The players weren't complaining about any offside, as like you say it wasn't even close. The were complaining about the corner they should have had moments before (and the perceived foul on Elia which was actually a fair tackle). Certainly no embarrassment.

As for saying Netherlands' play was bad, Spain were far from free from blame, constantly surrounding the ref and asking for Dutch players to be booked. Also diving all through the tournament - now THAT lacks class and is very bad for football. They deserved their win probably, but as Catarah said, and as was my initial point which no-one seemed to care about, the manner of the win was embarrassing for football. An incorrect sending off caused by a dive and a goal which shouldn't have counted. Bad for football, and reflects badly on a talented Spain squad.

As for class, at least I know a little something about this sport to know that the way Netherlands played was the way any underdogs would have played in trying to win against superior opposition. When 2 idiots take my words and turn them into something completely different, I do not like it.

Holy shit pander, you made enemies with frenchy. I didn't know that was possible :?

Also I don't see how spain winning gives a bad image for football, when they probably play the best football out of all the teams.

Scotland yet again have the world cup winners in our quali group for euro's, jesus I suppsoe its only one of the finalists this time

I wouldn't agree with that. They only scored 8 goals all tournament! The previous least to win a WC was 11 by Brazil in '94. I thought Germany and Argentina played the best football attacking-wise.

But I didn't mean Spain winning was bad for the tournament, only Spain winning the way they did. I don't begrudge them the win, they were clearly the most organised team in the competition (defensively especially!) and on balance probably deserved it. But the way they won was a bad end to a bad tournament. It would have been much better if they'd scored the chances they had prior to that so there could be no arguments! It was also a shame Iniesta (best player in the match) had to resort to diving. Ruins his reputation somewhat and takes the gloss off an otherwise good performance.

Scotland always seem to get f*d over by the draw! Hope they do well though; it was a shame when they didn't qualify after doing so well against France and Italy last time. I was secretly hoping you'd do them over and send one of them out ;)

They also gave up the least amount of goals for a winner ever.

While its true they didn't score a lot of goals this is with good reason. Every team they play against sit back in deep because they will just get outpassed, even the bigger nations did it. Germany played some great football but it was counter attacking football, Spain had something like 60% possession in that game. As for Argentina I kind of agree with you there, they perhaps were the best attacking side but they lack the fluidity and movement that makes Spain so attractive to watch.

Thanks mate, it all depends on how Levein does at the helm. We have decent players but under Burley it was a disaster he just didn't have the authority of Big eck/Walter Smith and we just weren't as disciplined.

once again my money was on the beaten finalists. :(

I had a tenner on Holland & Argentina. I had England in the sweep in work  and my son had Germany in the sweep on our estate.

I would of been 40 quid better of if Holland won. overall I was 60 quid down. :(

All's I can say is the USA is a really good team. In 09 we beat Spain in the Confederation Cup Final. In the 06 WC at 9 men we played Italy to a 1-1 draw. There's a handful of teams that are still better than us but from here on out I look for us to keep and improving and every WC I'll go into it with the realistic hope that we can win it. So is this what it's like to be and England fan or are you going to throw you 1 WC at me? haha

Next WC is in Brazil. I'm glad they lost this WC. If they were the defending champs and were playing at home they would have unprecedented confidence. Even if you didn't win it all, good job Holland!
