Queen Michelle I of Usa - Private Citizen

Post by tzor »

Fresh Ink » Obama Administration » "Michelle Obama took this trip as a 'private citizen'. Right.
Michelle Obama takes a trip on Air Force Two with a phalanx of security, Secret Service, staffers, friends and her daughter. It is immaterial whether it was $75,000 per day (which it apparently was at the lowest, most generous estimates) or $75M per day, they just don't seem to get the problem. And that is because liberals never look up from the trough long enough to see who their benefactors are.

Obama even tried to tug the emotional heartstrings by claiming that she was taking her very dearest friend on this trip because her father died and she wasn't able to make the funeral.

Even liberals are embarrassed by Michelle's trip to Spain
Kirsten Powers wrote in the New York Post...

The first lady's well-publicized, expensive vacation in southern Spain last week was a PR gift to her husband's opposition.

After all, we're in the middle of a major recession, with many Americans suffering terribly. President Obama himself, in discussing American economic woes with George Stephanopolous in January, said, "Everybody's going to have to [sacrifice]. Everybody's going to have to have some skin in the game."

Plus, Obama's worst political weakness has been with white-working class voters, who've viewed him with suspicion at least since the 2008 primaries. Mrs. Obama's jaunt through an expensive resort town in a one-shouldered Jean Paul Gaultier top won't help on that front.

"...liberals never look up from the trough long enough to see who their benefactors are."

There it is there. Nice.

"Obama even tried to tug the emotional heartstrings by claiming that she was taking her very dearest friend on this trip because her father died and she wasn't able to make the funeral."

Who was taking her very dearest friend on this trip?
So thoughtful of her. What a dear, dear friend.

I like the anti-liberal slant here. Have the previous posters ever thought about such insignificant events without politicizing it?

- Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately in the grand scheme of things) presidential spending records are kept private (for a long time). It's something like 25-50 years (I read an article way back when the media was pressing Hillary Clinton on her expenditures and she hid behind that law).

- But we know that 70 Secret Service Agents were brought on the trip. All of their travel expenditures had to be paid for. The estimated cost is $75K per day to the taxpayers

- Michelle Obama is lying when she says that this trip was about helping a friend grieving from a 'personal tragedy'. When I heard that, I thought - Oh she visited a friend in Spain (although I did not believe it was really a mourning trip). But then come to find out; No they took a posse of forty people (including her daughter). They rented a privated beach and villa and yuckety yucked it up. And it turns out that the friend is just a Chicago chronie who's grandpa died (please!). It's the same friend that traveled with her to Oslo. So they're established travel buddies. But yea I guess that's just the natural thing to do anyways is fly to Europe when your grandpa dies. That justifies $75 K per day to the taxpayers.

- "My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief. Making sure that in this transition, which will be even more of a transition for the girls... that they are settled and that they know they will continue to be the center of our universe. " - Michelle Obama. I guess we should just give her a break. She's just being a mom. That's what DNC Chairman Tim Kaine says too - http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/38622012/ ... ite_house/

Do you know what "professional" means? Is he being paid for posting here? Isn't it past your bedtime?

God damn it, I hate to do this, but...ViperOverLord's right on this one. All he did was ask BigBallinStalin if he'd CONSIDERED being a professional apologist, he didn't CALL HIM a professional apologist. In other words, he insinuated that BigBallinStalin was so good at it that he COULD be paid for it if he wanted to.

You missed the not. His question was whether BigBallinStalin wanted to stop being a professional apologist. Kinda ironic as most of Viper's posts are him trying to defend his dumb moments(ie usually the rest of his posts).

Way to have a coronary over semantics. Eh well. Forgot my phrasing. Either way the substance of the post stood for itself.

Yet again...nobody would have argued about the semantics if you had just admitted that you were wrong instead of arguing about it.

What does being liberal have to do with it? You think the taxpayers should pay $75 K a day for her to swim on a beach in Spain?

Unfortunately, the magnitude of this "issue" doesn't even place it in the top 100 issues facing the country.

That said, I think this kind of action backed by taxpayer $ is bullshit. She should be traveling within the US for a vacation. That would certainly be cheaper. Virginia, the Carolinas, New Jersey, Florida, California, Texas, all have beaches.

She could have traveled to THE GULF like the POTUS and First Lady urged Americans to do. This would have been a great chance to lead by example.

Well no it doesn't. Neither does most murders in the United States, most armed robberies, and so forth; that doesn't mean we should ignore them.

It's all about attitude. It's the same attitude that caused Leona Helmsley to say "We don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes." It is the attitude of the rich and powerful elite and they are the people who are in it up to their necks in those top 100 issues facing this country.

Spending money one doesn't have is easy for the rich and powerful elite. They just can never understand that when all is said and done the federal government really doesn't have any money at all. All they can spend is someone else's money. Every time they spend one million dolalrs, one million people are one dollar poorer. Every time they spend $304 million dollars, everyone in the United States is one dollar poorer. Given the current state of the economy, some people really need that dollar. But when your rich, you don't care about the "little people." (Mind you if you do care about the little people you might loose your job, as the CEO of BP found out.)

If you want to get "Presidential" then she should have gone to the "Little White House."
In 2005, President Bill and Senator Hillary Clinton used the house as a weekend retreat.

In December 2007, former President Jimmy Carter and family returned for a visit.
But then again, I try not to let my loyalty to Key West color my arguments. ;)

How is that relevant? We're spending a shitload of money, so this extra 75K won't matter? That doesn't seem like good policy.

What? Wars cost money (and lives)? Well we better haul tail out of there. Thanks for letting us know. Had you not mentioned this, I might have foolishly supported the wars.
