...the first time I engaged PLAYER in a debate thinking "this could be an intelligent and meaningful" discussion. Boy was I wrong! And what's worse is she keeps leading me into same such debates! I have learned one thing through all this though..... you can take the girl out of liberalism but you can't take liberalism out of the girl!
THE DEBATE IS OVER...

I find it amazing how many folks want to use this thread solely as a vehicle for bashing those they disagree with, rather than being honest in it. Then again, I do seem to notice a consistent theme among those who are doing so...color me not surprised there.

I stand by my words there. I am willing to admit I am wrong about God when you can give me SCIENTIFIC PROOF of his existence.

A state full of rednecks except a small population of rational people in the northernmost city of Huntsville.

But if they are so rational, THEN WHY ARE THEY LIVING IN ALABAMA?

Come visit some time Juan, it's a great city and we have a DISC GOLF COURSE!

Huntsville and a few liberals down in Fair Hope. (originated as a true socialistic town.. interesting history).

Anyway, one reason.. used to have NO STATE INCOME TAXES. That's a big reason a lot of folks live in or near Mobile, Alabama. That and the part up by Georgia is nice scenically. Go much out of the bigger areas, though, and.. yes, you had best be prepared.

I stand by my words there. I am willing to admit I am wrong about God when you can give me SCIENTIFIC PROOF of his existence.

Faith takes off where science ends. It can neither be proven nor disproven.

Evolution, on the other hand.. can. But the goal of opponents is not religion, it is destruction in any but superficial reliance on science. When you believe that peer-reviewed journals are nothing but self-serving, self-perpetuating forums of disproving God/going against the Bible (intentionally or just through misguided assumptions and errors), then you can believe anything.

Oh, yes, and just "cooincidentally", don't have to accept prove for a variety of things ranging from effectiveness of vaccines, harm from various pollutants (discovered/known and as yet unkown). You need not see destruction of species as anything terrible, and have this innate idea that a little bit of time will simply "fix everything" unless, of course God intends for the end to come.

BUT, when you make the argument about God, you will lose. .. and sadly, that is EXACTLY what is happening around our country, which is why I keep harping on evolution. Its not really about evolution, its about truth in science versus fiction and even understanding what scientific proof really means.

SO.. while I am definitely not going to say you are wrong for having your belief (I disagree, but cannot prove you wrong), I will say that insisting it is proveable is wrong.. and leads down a dangerous track indeed. Once you begin cutting off solutions in science, you slant what you see. This is the fundamental problem with Young Earth Creationists. Once you eliminate so many options, it becomes easy to believe that the outright false must be true, because you have eliminated any chance of seeing the alternatives before you ever begin. So, too, if you cut off any possibility for God, then you cut off any chance of finding proof in not just God, but many things that are "spiritual" "ephemeral", "miraculous", etc.

P.S. my son's school was one of a VERY FEW schools in PA to get an excellence in education award. This is the same school that has not only retained, but promoted a teacher who, among other things, saw no problem with declaring that "frogs are vertebrates which means they have no backbone." Over half of the teachers up there attend churches that advocate young earth philosophies.

Ao, please.. go ahead and believe as you will, but don't fight the dead battle. There are too many real ones out there. You will not convince people to eliminate God. But, you can influence how that impacts society.

Look - proof of player being wrong again ;) Alabama does have state income tax, although not for most retirement income (maybe that's where you were confused)? http://www.revenue.alabama.gov/incometax/itfaq01.htm

Actually, failure to update. They did not when I lived down there. I should have checked if it was still true. Even so, a lot of people moved down there because there were no income taxes at the time.

So, actually it is still a big reason why people live down there.
But, yes, I was wrong. I admit it and have corrected my original post.

Hate to point this out to you Jones but I think you are wrong in this post as well. Technicolor is a tradename and therefore is not spelled with a "u".
