Let's switch to an Absolute Monarchy then.john9blue wrote:Democracy is overrated anyway.
Don't you think if the ban was lifted based on the fact that the majority of the community thought it was wrong, would bans ever stick?Army of GOD wrote:...as to why I wasn't unbanned before when there was a clear and distinct grand majority of people who thought my ban wasn't deserved? You're saying that that decision isn't going to be over-turned to protect the pride of the mod?

I bet the community would use your case and try to lift future bans.
"WE ALL THINK [insert username here]'s BAN SHOULD BE LIFTED"
This is exactly why I suggested this: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 4&t=133318Army of GOD wrote:...as to why I wasn't unbanned before when there was a clear and distinct grand majority of people who thought my ban wasn't deserved? If the community wants it, then why would the mods protest? If they're HERE for the community, then they should represent what the community wants.TheForgivenOne wrote:Don't you think if the ban was lifted based on the fact that the majority of the community thought it was wrong, would bans ever stick?Army of GOD wrote:...as to why I wasn't unbanned before when there was a clear and distinct grand majority of people who thought my ban wasn't deserved? Wouldn't that lead to suggest most bans here are not worthwhile?TheForgivenOne wrote:Don't you think if the ban was lifted based on the fact that the majority of the community thought it was wrong, would bans ever stick?Army of GOD wrote:...as to why I wasn't unbanned before when there was a clear and distinct grand majority of people who thought my ban wasn't deserved? How do we even know that's what half or more of the community wanted? There was a general feeling with threads and posts saying that you should be unbanned, but let's realize that those are only posted by those who have a strong desire for your ban to have been lifted. Everyone else who might have thought that it was a rightful ban may have actually been held as a silent majority with a disincentive to express their opinion because of a possible "loud minority".Army of GOD wrote:If the community wants it, then why would the mods protest? We would also have to define exactly what "the community" refers to. In your post, it seems to assume the regular posters of the forum, but who's to say that if we introduced your case to all of those who just regularly play games that they would absolutely follow your side or be against it? Can we really be so sure that, if presented to every (or nearly every) member that is active here that it would be in your favor? Or if we were to take an open sample that wasn't anonymous that it would be in your favor? I'm just trying to make sure that both sides of the question are presented here. The loudest voices aren't the only ones that should be heard
Perhaps it wasn't the whole community, but there was a distinct majority of people who voted for my ban to be ended.rdsrds2120 wrote:How do we even know that's what half or more of the community wanted?
Highly doubtful but I can't necessarily argue it. However; they did have the opportunity to anonymously vote in a poll. There was a general feeling with threads and posts saying that you should be unbanned, but let's realize that those are only posted by those who have a strong desire for your ban to have been lifted. That doesn't really matter since they don't forum. We would also have to define exactly what "the community" refers to. Are you implying that if the mods were assigned based on a community poll that the debate of whether or not they were for the betterment of the community would be resolved?Army of GOD wrote: Furthermore; it's hard to even say that mods are for the community. You guys are promoted by the admins, WHO ARE PART OF THE COMPANY (I think? Don't they get paid?). When did the community ever get a say in who becomes a mod?
It's pretty surprising when you're chillin' in off-topics and you see someone who doesn't really forum in off-topics often become a mod, threatening to lock down some pretty easy-going threads. You can't keep up the lie that you're here for the betterment of the community. You're here for protecting the business.
Wouldn't be resolved but would make a Hell of a lot more sense.rdsrds2120 wrote:Are you implying that if the mods were assigned based on a community poll that the debate of whether or not they were for the betterment of the community would be resolved?Army of GOD wrote: Furthermore; it's hard to even say that mods are for the community. I have read up on that and I agree with Mill that the tyranny of the majority is dangerous. This doesn't have to do with that though. In fact, this is kind of the opposite. Mill defended the eccentrics and was strongly against censorship, which is exactly what mods do on this site. Oh wellz.john9blue wrote:i'm not a huge fan of the moderation on this site, but those of you who think that the mods should only represent the wishes of the community need to read up on "tyranny of the majority"

but the idea still stands. if conservatives outnumbered liberals on this site, would you want the mods to directly represent the voice of the community?Army of GOD wrote:I have read up on that and I agree with Mill that the tyranny of the majority is dangerous.
