Guns

Post by bedub1 »

I just finished cleaning my two pistols. I made a boo-boo...and didn't clean them after I used them last. It had been several months since they were dirtied. Fortunately I got them clean and the barrels don't look like they have pitted too much. I ended up cleaning the plastic parts in the sink with hot water, dishsoap etc. Then took it outside and blasted it with compressed air until it was perfectly dry. Apply oil, and she looks brand new again.

Anybody like to go shooting? Do you do a "quick clean" in the field, and then a serious clean when you get home? Whats your favorite way of cleaning? Any hints or tricks you have found useful?

Personally...I love my toothpicks, cotton swabs, toothbrush, brass barrel cleaning brush etc.

Just a couple or three of my favorite house guns! :D

S&W M&P 40, .40 cal. Always swab out the barrel, breach, and magazine well. Then spray down all parts with a good gun oil. (I like Rem Oil) Full break down and clean every 2-4 months.
Image

Ruger Security Six. .357 mag. Got to love a revolver! Takes about 5 minutes for a full clean!
Image

S&W Model 36, .38 spl. Early 70s pistol, carried every day, so I wipe it down and oil it every 2-3 weeks.
Image

Always keep a can of good gun oil handy, if you don't have time to clean, spray down the entire weapon, inside the barrel, breach, mag well, all moving parts, it will protect the firearm and make cleaning easier when you finally get around to it!

Okay, so a guy gets pulled over. He hands the Officer his license, insurance, and conceal carry permit. The Officer looks at the cards and asks the man "What kind of gun are you carrying?" The man says "I have a 36 snub in the glove box, as well as a 9 mil on my hip and a 22 in my shoe." The Officer says "Is that it?" The man says "No, there is also a 12 gage shotgun and an AR-15 in the trunk."

The Officer says "Good god, what the hell are you afraid of sir"

The man answers "NOT A DAMN THING!"

I was cleaning my gun once, and forgot to set the safety, so I shot myself in the foot.

The only legit gun I've ever shot was a .22 rifle. That was when I was like 11 or 12.

After shooting I typically clean the barrel when I get home. Then light amount of oil...not too much that it attacks dirt.
After it starts getting dirty (3, 4, 5, 8? times shooting)...I do a complete tear down and clean...

You use a spray oil? Mine is drops...Do you spray everything? Wipe it all back off? Do you ever clean your gun after it's been sitting even thought it hasn't been shot since you cleaned it last? After a great clean I found like 2 months later the inside of the barrel was covered in green and I cleaned it again.... with a single swab....too much oil? leftover hops no 9? It was easy to remove but concerned me...

I'll have to get a spray can of oil to cover them with.....does it help to spray them in the field and then clean when I get home? If you are camping and shooting multiple days....do you clean in the field?

Any soldiers in the military here that sleep with their guns and clean them constantly with additional advice?

If I could only own one gun, it would be a 22 competition rifle. They are quite, fun to shoot, accurate, basically no recoil....just a blast. Plus nobody could ever say it's a people killing gun or something silly like that.

BAD bedub! Bad!
You always clean your tools after you've used them. No exceptions.

WTH is that called?

I keep weapons well lubed with any gun oil / spray like triflow while shooting; always completely clean when done and periodically cause its fun.

I'm a 45 ACP guy pistol-wise.....22 for plinking....223 for expensive plinking......only bird hunt with Winchester model 59....finest shotgun ever made IMHO. :D

Only revolver I like is the birds head vaquero in 45 LC

Next guns I would like to own are an M14 and a bolt Barrett 50....six grand ought to cover it....sigh......
