not exactly, you miss the point. that was a response to the point that guns are to blame, and getting rid of guns would prevent someone who was motivated to kill.

but somewhat yes, I am certain with a knife he could not have killed or wounded so many. I am also certain, that if I were there and had my gun, the number wounded/killed would be much less in either case.

Over here in England, we did in fact go through the 'sword phase'
Now days we have teenagers carrying knives stabbing each other, whilst the rest of us just go about our normal business with no knives, no swords, no guns and we don't feel unsafe.
From time to time like in dunblane a guy with a gun goes berserk and kills 15. or some prick blows up a tube train and kills 20 odd people. Your just as likely to be killed in a rail crash than be killed by a gun. It doesn't stop me getting on a train.
