Olbermann: Worst Person In The World...Gone?

Postby CreepersWiener on Mon Jan 10, 2011 10:25 pm

Keith, tell us it ain't true! We all love the "Worst Person In The World" segment! Oh well, I guess we live in the age of responsible media now. And I guess the segment's name is going to change, and not it's satirically criticizing content.

About fucking time. I like how Keith comes out and says, basically "I'm turning down the level of hate on my program" but then he turns right around and justifies it with some French Philosopher Bullshit, then turns around and says "of course, you should not believe when I call someone the worst person in the world, that I am actually calling them the worst person in the world?!" Oh, wow, so I'm dumb too? thanks Keith. Oh yeah, then he blames the shooting on Sarah Palin....

The media is already improving

Would you like a pissing contest scotty on the insidious, inciteful, vitriolic rhetoric from the left versus from the right?

Speaking of this segment...does anyone know if Fred Phelps ever made the list? Because if anyone in recent times deserves that moniker...

The tone doesn't fit in with the kinder, gentler political rhetoric.

Kieth doesn't want pot smoking, Communist Manifesto reading liberal nutjobs who got kicked out of college to go kill Glen Beck or something. Keith does have a conscience.

You've really disappointed me of late. You're the one conservative on here I thought I could rely on to not be a disingenuous douche.

The reality is, liberal commentators will try to rein in some of the divisive potentially harmful toxic rhetoric, even though they are largely not to blame, whilst the conservatives won't budge an inch.

You know that personal responsibility conservatives bleat on about, whilst being incredibly irresponsible hypocrites. Liberals aspire to reach toward that principle, and it gets used against them.

Oh stop it.

There is no "personal responsibility" gene in liberal commentators vs. conservative commentators. You're making broad generalizations about large numbers of people. There are only two conservative commentators who use hate (I know you dislike the word vitriol) or over-the-top rhetoric that I've ever seen in the "mainstream": Rush Limbaugh only occasionally and Glenn Beck. There is only one liberal commentator who I've seen use it: Keith Olbermann. I like Rush, although I haven't regularly listened to him in a few years. I also like Olbermann and I used to listen to him all the time.

You're also either being incredibly naive or else you're being disingenous. At least when I argue with people I understand the hypocrisy and self-serving nature of people on both sides, whether liberal or conservative. You don't seem to have that understanding... your brain says "Liberals = Good" and "Conservative = Bad." So either you're naive or you're being disingenuous. Which is it?

where did I even imply that I think liberals good, conservatives bad?

Conservatives talk about personal responsibility all the time. The housing market fiasco, for example. Olbermann tried to rein in his personal rhetoric, and you attacked him for it.

Yes... I attacked him for it because I think it's stupid. That segment of his show was the best segment.

And to suggest he did it for anything other than publicity is shockingly naive. It's perfect for him - "I'm back from a hiatus that was imposed because I donated money to a political campaign... which I wasn't allowed to do. Now, in order to generate buzz, I'm going to show that I'm a kinder, gentler Olbermann." I don't want a kindler, gentler Olbermann... I have Jon Stewart thank you very much. I want a holier-than-though, cuttingly intelligent, well-spoken Olbermann who rips everyone!

I disagree with your assessment of his actions, but I retract the accusation that you were being disingenuous. You're being overly cynical I think, but considering how cynical I am, I guess the best we can come to is that our cynicism motivates our conclusions.

With respect to the news media, politicians, and business, I'm completely cynical. I firmly believe that all of those people are interested first in themselves and all of their actions are generated through personal interest.

With respect to everyone else, I'm completely non-cynical.

Hate? Rush doesn't "hate". The only thing hateful about Rush are the liberals reactions to the truths and wisdoms he speaks.

I was referring merely to his hatred of Donovan McNabb.
