For some reason he started a new thread. But even then the other thread was only started on the 18th of march.
Stronger should really take the forge question out of his title.

Who cares? It's not actually in that stage of development. But, why don't you give me advice to help me get it there.

And I'm not saying it's ready now, but what does it matter if I only started making it recently? I've put a good deal of work into it and will do much more as necessary. But, I've incorporated almost every piece of reasonable advice (by which I mean polite and specific).

What would you change? What needs to be changed?

Does it look playable? What about values?

Does it look fun?

You havent really done anything about the colours. Many people have said army numbers would be very difficult to see. I can even see the army shadows in madagascar. And they are barely visable in the yellow continent. Yellow and neutral numbers are going to be impossible to see.

You havent done anything about having 2 different mountains. You havent explained why you want 2 different mountains if you dont want to change them.

De Aar is still way too small. I think you should either make it bigger, or get rid of it.

You dont need the "ready for forging" question in your title. You've made your point, you are now getting alot more attention than before you started a new topic with a question about final forge.

Why are there dots in german territory?

If you think people have been rude about the map by saying the map is a mess.... clean it up. Your northern border seems very messy. As I mentioned, what are the dots in german territory about? And people really need to stop comparing their maps to maps that are currently on the site. Alot of those maps were not put through the process that maps are put through now.

Right now I am more interested in the other SA map. Its alot neater and the colours are alot better.

Some of your message had good advice. Thank you!

Here is the new version (8.0):

Image

+Fixed coloring in German Territory
+Fixed N border

Give me advice about how to fix it and I will take it.

Some things like colors are subjective, so not everyone will agree. But stuff about graphics, shadows, playability, etc, I want to discuss and fix.

Some of the borders can be clearer. Are the white borders impassable?

The border between Kariba and Lourenco Marques.. it's unclear in the north above the river.

The borders in the southeast are a bit confusing too. Can Kroonstad attack basuiu? can Swazi land attack anywhere? Is De Aar a country? I don't see a border but i see the name and the circle designating that it is something.

The change in the contrast and the thinning of the rivers was a good improvement

i have a big problem with the graphics.
i'm sure you're not using layers and that will cause many headaches when it comes to editing.

for example i'm looking at the Portugese East continent. look closely at the border towards the ocean. i'm pretty sure you had a colour there and then instead of using layers and quickly changing them, you had to take the brush and repaint by hand. ofcourse you don't have the finess to do the fill and the consequence is that really disturbing border with cracks that allow the colour at the bottom to be seen.

my advice is to start from scratch and work with layers. lots of them.
i have in my maps hundreds of layers and i can do any modification in just a few minutes.

Of course I'm working in layers. How else could I have made these kind of edits. I will fix those borders and coloring for the next update.

What else?

if you work with layers why the heck did you use paintbrush to colour that continent?? you have the fill option and that does a much better job

You will need to do something about the colours. There is no way anyone will be able to see yellow or grey armies in the yellow continent.

I still don't like the colours.
It just doesn't appeal to me.

Well, here goes.....

One of the biggest things that concerns me is how cluttered this map is and it's the large version. How is this going to look when you try to shrink it down to 600px wide?

You need to get rid of some of these useless objects cluttering up tight parts of your map. Look at Limpopo, why do you have a river running into the middle of it? You don't have space for that and it serves no purpose, it needs to be shortened. I would say the same for Kariba and Skeleton Coast. The rivers around Lourenco Marques are very confusing, I don't even know what that borders.

Is Swaziland divided from its own region? How does that work? And why?

Kroonstad and all that crap around it needs some serious love, it's way too cluttered. It reminds me of a really messy bedroom where you can't even see the floor. There's like a half-assed mountain range between Kroonstad and Basutu, do they connect with each other or not?

Why do you have 2 different types of mountains?

The silver border you have around the regions makes it look impassable. Just leave it black like the normal borders, the different colors will sufficiently identify the regions.

I count 39 territories. This is a bad number. If it was 40, that would be 10 per person in 4 player games. 42 would be playable by 6 players at 7 each (barely). However, since it's already feeling very "cluttered," I would recommend reducing it to 36 territories, which is 9 each in a 4 person game.

Start with De Aar, it's way too small and confusing. Merge Kroonstad and Fischer's Farm into one territory, and merge that territory into the East Kingdoms region. 9 is too many regions for a map this small anyway. Get rid of all the jungle and mountains within the region, you don't have space for them. Merge something else in Portuguese East. This should bring that region down to 5 territories, and your total down to 36.

Move the port in Madagascar to Bara so that region now has 2 borders. Also, each port symbol should touch the the corresponding territory just a little.

Let's see how that looks and we can talk bonuses.

I'll just comment on two things. The colours need to be completely redone as they are too bright and the effect you gave to the continents (the 'plastic bag' effect - are you using Photoshop?) does not look good. Start from there.
