I like this font and colour the best. You could always do something to add more of a black outline around the text.

I think the white text is better than the black and it definantly looks better than having some black some white.

Update on page 1.

This font seems to lose definition when it has a black outline... Any ideas for a better font?

Please post your updates throughout the thread, it's much easier to follow.

This is definately my favourite map in development at the moment, you've done a great job. There's a couple of things that still need to be looked at.

The outline of your font is broken with what looks like a 1 pixel dot on most of your vowels. I think it looks nice apart from that. If you're not happy with the black outline, you could try another dark colour. You just need something to add contrast between text and map.

I think your title could benefit from being a bit brighter and maybe even a little bigger.

Lastly, your mountains are fine, but it would be nice to see them improved to look even better. I think you could make them stand out a bit better by having a darker edge to them. This would help individual mountains stand out in a group.

Cool, thanks.

Like I said before - the text has been a nightmare. I just can't get it right. Do you have a suggestion (and a place I can download) a ttf from?
If I make it bigger, the text crosses too many boundaries. UGH.

I tried to do something like your mountains on the Middle East revamp, but failed :(

Changed some borders to better fit text and army shadows.
Fiddled with text for better fit.

I prefer the previous borders you had, the lighter ones. The font is very readable, seems like a good fit.

I'd still like to see something done to the title.

Sure, they can, but I believe it makes the borders not 'defined' enough... I can't really explain it better than that.

Love the new south africa map

Postby KingCoolDaddy on Sat Mar 31, 2007 3:56 pm

Colouring is perfect, everything is easy to read. Would play it in an instant.

Would prefer something other than Oliver Tambo for the East London area though. What about the classic Xhosa names for East London and Port Elizabeth - iBayi and iMonti?

Might as well also make it seem like a connected river in the Siyabanda area...even though I know it's not. Flows easier.

Comments?

Thanks.

No, I'm using the official districts as far a possible, except where the districts were too small to fit in, so the district names stay the same. It wouldn't make sense to have the official districts for most territories and then change some others.

I've also thought of connecting the northern river boundaries, but thought I would leave it as accurate as possible. It's easy to do if need be.

Not a problem, but I would like to have a reason. I'm new to the Map Foundry, but I'm sure you have to give reasoning where possible, just like I have to do if I don't want to change something...
