Hang on L+M, a fizzy, apple flavoured beverage? That's cider. No such thing as a soft drink in Ireland. :D

Maybe not orangeade, but Orange Julius.. yeah!

Also, I am very tired of apple juice, as it is the primary ingredient in "juicy Juice"..t hough that might just be useable as a weapon (any other parents out there agree???)

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

I've been sitting here for almost 2 days now, starring at an apple and orange in front of me and tirelessly refreshing this thread.

As soon as I thought someone had finally made an argument that could break me out of my vexing conundrum, I would remeber all of the previous counterpoints and be paralized by indecision once more.
The fact that my lack of sustenance or rest was making me more and more weary was not making the matter any easier to resolve. Actually, I had all but lost hope and was just about to retrieve my katana and end this cursed suffering once and for all.

Then came the shimmering light that was your post and my doubts were finally put aside. I can now resume living once more.

The orange it is.

i KNEW i should have put a tl;dr at the bottom of my post.

tl;dr: apples rule, oranges suck

go forth with this newfound knowledge

Clementine is the best fruit, let's not argue about that.

In the Authorised King James Version of the Bible, it does not state what fruit was on the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Maybe you're confusing Eve with Snow White? Now there's a case against apples. Think of the films where apples are troublemakers. Enchanted and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs spring immediately to mind.

Then there's the whole thing with giving your teacher an apple. Why? Because in Disney films apples are poisoned and school children are hoping that something similar might happen if they give their teacher a lovely juicy apple?

There's something suspicious about all this....

The clear answer is oranges. They taste better and who says they're hard to peel? Using only my fingersw I am able to peel them in one piece. Much easier to eat too if you're teeth are bothering you.

On the other hand apple sauce is better than whatever would happen if you tried to mush up an orange in similar fashion.

If we are going to discuss best fruit. Elton John wins hands down. If we are talking about fruit you can grow at home. You can't go past the humble cumquat. Cool sounding name, grows quite happily in a little clay pot inside or on your balcony. Sadly though cumquat is a citrus fruit, so related to the overrated and generally shit house orange.

You can't zest an apple.
having said that lime zest is superior in almost every case to orange.
Also, dried orange peel is a regular ingredient in Chinese cooking.

The crabapple is the only apple native to North America.

I imagine some of you will change your vote when you see that the apple is an immigrant.

On the other hand; In a number of languages, [an orange] is known as a "Chinese apple"

Lemon: a mutant lifeform native to North America, a "lemon" is generally believed to be not a fruit, but an excretory waste product emitted by another odd mutation, the "C.A.W./U.A.W worker"

literaly, a yellow citrus fruit.
figuratively, depends on context, most likely suggests something I'm not aware, implied by your question.
And I was just joking.

About spheres: spheroid! Oh, now it makes sense! Lemons, oranges, and apples are all spheroids, I think I meant to say spherical. Lemons are not spheres, and thus are not spherical, although they are still spheroids. I got my definitions mixed up. Thanks for clearing that up a little.

When I tried to think of a story that had oranges in it I thought of the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. There was a scene in that book where the orange companies took the excess oranges and poured oil over them and burned them. What a waste!
Also, Florida oranges: doesn't that sound cool?
