Diplomacy [Spring 1903]

Postby everywhere116 on Fri Apr 06, 2007 6:07 pm

Has anyone played diplomacy before? I am starting an online game here in the social lounge. When 7 players sign up, I will randomly pick nations. Then, everyone gets 72 hours at the start to conduct diplomavcy, then 24 hours to send in moves, and then 24 hours for retreats, and then, if necessary, 24 hours for adjustments. After every phase I will post a map with the units on it. To conduct diplomacy, you may either post here, talk via pm, or gabbly, or any way you can think of. But no talking when you are not supposed to.

And you can only build units in starting areas.

here is the image of the map. See St. Petersburg, the fleet there starts at the south coast. It can go to Livonia, Gulf of Bothnia, or Finland. It cant go to Norway or the Barents Sea, because warships cant travel across the land, even though the territorry borders them. Same situation in Bulgaria and Spain.

Also, a fleet in Rome cant go to Venice for the same reason, even though they are adjacent. But not by water. Armies could cross it, though.

Sure! Your basic moves:

Hold: Stay where you are

Move, Attack: Move one adcacent territory. Armies can only move on land, fleets on sea and on coastal provinces. If two units are ordered into the same place without support they standoff and niether of them move. Consider my previous post.

Support: Assist another unit (not necessarily yours) in moving or holding. Can only support in spaces it could move in. Whichever unit has more support wins. Order fails if unit is attacked.

Convoy: A fleet may convoy an army (not necessarily yours) across water. Multiple fleets are needed to cross multiple bodies of water. Order only fails if a fleet is dislodged.

Retreat: If a unit is dislodged a unit has to move to an empty space that a standoff has not occured. If none available, the unit is destroyed. If two units retreat to the same place they are both destroyed. May disband in place of reatreating.

Adjustments: At the fall turn units take over supply centers they occupy. If a player has more units than centers, he MUST disband as many as needed to return to the center count. If there are more centers, he MAY build as many units in any unoccupied home center until his unit count reaches his center count.

Winning: When one nation reaches 18 centers he is declared the winner.

And then there is the diplomacy part that cannot be taught.

Thats what it means. Armies have to be able to unload, or it fails.
