It's only an insult if you percieve being gay as something negative. I don't think Symm is the one who views homosexuality negatively.

Yeah, I don't think anyone posting cares whether or not men buttfuck each other, just don't donate blood if you do. Furthermore, stop boycotting/slandering/harassing charitable institutions that facilitate blood and marrow transfusions.

Raise the drinking age? It's Mothers Against Drunk Driving... and drunk drivers continue to kill people in America every week of the year.

I sense there is an unexplained generalization missing here that requires further definition before that statement can be fully understood.

.

It was founded because the founder lost her daughter to a drunk who had been previously convicted, let go.. and who, even after killing her daughter got basically a slap on the wrist. Such were the laws at the time.

The drinking age was raised because too many 18-20 year olds were utterly irresponsible when drinking. If you wish to blame someone, blame them. Note, I am not saying I agree with the age issue, but put the blame where it belongs.

No, but he reinforces the stereotype that homosexuality is bad by using it as an insult.

Replace the words "homosexuality," "gay," etc. with the word "black" and try that one out. Let's see how that looks.

Use your words Symm! Use your words!

Well, since people are moving to attack individuals rather than ideas, or the public heath concerns (which apparently they can't, so you better lobby against the individual!), let's go ahead and explore this a little bit.

So far we have oVo declaring that I'm uncomfortable around gay men. I never said that. He's announced it though, which is intended to produce the defense mechanism. I guess I'm supposed to say, "No I'm not!", but it's more complex than that.

Of course there are times when I, or any other reasonable person, would feel uncomfortable around gay men, and vice versa. Also, there's a wide range of personality types among gay men, some of which put others at ease, others which are silly and ridiculous, and others which are downright overbearing and repugnant. Same as you'd find among the heterosexual populace.

I don't give a shit if someone's gay, and it's pretty stupid to go jumping to conclusions about me just because there are certain behaviors (such as bullying the Red Cross) I'm not a fan of. My suspicion is that the people bandying accusations and insinuations about my character are just hypersensitive. They're so caught up with feeling persecuted and wanting to be the victim that they can't recognize when they're bullying others, especially those who are trying to do real good.

Also, is the term "buttfuck" now considered bad or something? How ridiculous is that? Making more mountains out of mole hills, it sounds like.

I see, a couple of protests at universities in 2 very large, diverse cities and this amounts to a widespread campaign? I don't think so. Like I said, its not even prominent in SF, where pretty much all homosexual issues tend to be evident. You have a few idiots, not a widespread movement. Those idiots certainly are causing localized harm, but that's pretty much how idiots operate. I am not saying their behavior is OK, just that its not this widespread homosexual agenda.

You make sort of a fair point. But Aradhus is right, I don't consider homosexuality to be negative. I think you've got a good point against me in that, let's face it, I was suggesting that the posters who expressed irrational fear of homosexuals, Mr Attack with his "scary" stuff about paedophilia, and Mr Dave with his fears over gay blood, might well have a bit of repression going on.

Replacing the words, however, isn't really going to work for precisely that reason. Repression. Nobody finds out that they were black all along but were just in the closet.

lol.. in seriousness, when even a smidgeon of black blood made you legally black, children of those who "passed" would sometimes be shocked to find they were actually black.

Also, I like how Symmetry is still trying to go after the whole, "you must be a repressed gay" thing. By that logic, I'm also a repressed heroin/meth/cocaine addict, prostitute, and person who eats copious amounts of beef from the UK.

And this whole 'repression' thing is totally lame, dude. Do you think that you are 'catching me out' by implying that I am gay? Your posts are a total fucking facepalm and this is why I generally refrain from replying to you.

I'm guessing this isn't the first time that this has been suggested to either of you, given the reactions. And I would suspect that both of you are familiar with the idea of repression and how it manifests itself. If it's any consolation, I would prefer that you both analyse the roots of your fears. It's not always the best sign if even the basic suggestion that something might be going on behind the scenes causes you to disown someone. Or if you equate homosexuality with drug addiction.

There are clearly background issues at play here. I can accept that perhaps it's a little premature to draw any conclusions, but that's where couple's therapy comes in. You can type "I'm not gay" as often as you want, and in as many different forms as you like, but strenuous denial isn't always the best course.

Ridiculous. Why is Symmetry getting so personal now? Why is he taking a public health concern personally?

Also, everyone's been called a "f****t" before. So if anyone says they haven't been called gay, they're lying. The difference is that we heterosexuals usually laugh about it, but gay guys like you prefer to get really offended.

And outside of having sex with other men or wanting to have sex with other men, just about any behavior a man engages in can be construed as being "gay". Ever take a shower at the gym before you go to work? Ever talk about your feelings with another dude, or listen to him talk about his? UH OH! Ever go clothes shopping with another man? I did once, and we laughed about it. He had his car down for the weekend in college and there was a big sale at one of the malls in the suburbs. We both needed some new button-downs. So depending on your definition of gay, we're all kind of gay, it's just a matter of degrees. In the case of the Red Cross, if you're so gay that you have sex with other men, you should refrain from donating blood. It's not a moral judgment! It's nothing personal! It's just a behavior at greater risk of being infected with an STD, the same as prostitution or sharing needles. And people who eat lots of beef in the UK are at a greater risk of having Mad Cow Disease, so they shouldn't donate either. It's nothing personal! We still love you Limeys! You're our greatest ally in the world. But keep your blood to yourselves, thanks.

So your declarations are silly, Symmetry, and are indicative of a desire, on your part, to try to hurt my feelings. Why is that? I'm guessing it's cause I've hurt yours. But it's nothing personal dude. I really don't care about who you love or who you have sex with. I'm not afraid of gay people. I've said this numerous times now in this thread, but you won't let it go. Y u mad bro? Y u no discuss teh ideas?

It doesn't matter what anyone says, you're going to claim up and down it's a sign of repressed homosexuality. Maybe that's just because you have dicks on the mind, bro, and should stop projecting. We're not all like you. And I don't expect you to be just like me. Why do you care so much?
