Top 3 vacation spots

Postby whitestazn88 on Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:50 am

I recently traveled to the midwest, and boy did it suck. I got into Aspen though, and went skiing for the 3rd time in my life and had an exhilarating time. Unfortunately the cost of skiing is out of my lifestyle price range.

but if i had a dream vacation, my top 3 spots would be

1. Italy
2. Hawaii
3. England

any other ideas? haven't been to fiji or those indies, but i figure hawaii is just as good, and i don't need a passport for it.

I can confirm that Italy is a WONDERFUL vacation spot. Switzerland is also very high on my list of places I enjoyed. But #1 is Jamaica, and specifically Sandals Resort. Overpriced, no question...but I do love me some all-inclusive, and Jamaica is a wonderful place to spend it.

Been to Kauai 30 times or so.....been to Peurto Rico and St Thomas (no passport needed)....nice thing about Hawaii is its real America...for those of us that have never travelled abroad, it seems like home (a really warm, humid, tropical home ;o)....St Thomas uses our currency, speaks english, etc, but damn that place is a shite hole once you're off the tourist path...several murders / tons of crime during the 2 weeks I spent there. Abject poverty right next to incredible wealth. I'll stick to Kauai ;o)

I wouldn't go to Venice for an extended period of time. Just enough time to take in the historical sights that I particularly want to see.

The good thing about Hawaii is you're on American soil if you like that sort of thing, I know I do. Why? because I don't have to get a hepatitis shot yet, can drink a glass of water and won't end up sweating if I'm more than 30 paces from a clean toilet and you can get chili cheese fries. I have not made it to any of the cool smaller islands like Kauai. I have gone to Oahu twice liked it a lot and we're going back to Maui for the second time, in less than a week. Maui is more expensive and quieter/rural. My buddy went with his girlfriend and their baby and hated it. What are you planning to do there? Waikiki is touristy but that means there's bars, hookers, cool mime statue dudes etc. Maui has better snorkeling. North shore surfing is probably similar as is renting a Harely to ride around.

England is cool but don't expect to enjoy eating while you're there. The beer is good and colder than you were told, especially if you get some lager, be polite and tell them you're American and they'll help you get the most watered down yellow bubbly stuff they serve.

I have not been to Italy either but from what I understand a guy like me can put on 10-20lbs a week easy.

You need better ground transport my man. My wife's house is only a bit closer to you than 6 flags. I'd consider the drive from your place to L.A. if it was a long weekend and I wanted some tacos from that place behind Disney land.
Ok, so I'm exaggerating but I'm thinking of driving the kids to Cali next year for summer vacation.

Yeah, I've never made it into the City Proper but the second rudest person in France I delt with was just outside Paris a bit. I'd be interested in dropping in and checking out the pyramid. I have to admit with my hyper active bladder a place with public urinals everywhere seems like my kind of town. I wish I had a place to practice speaking Frence more before I went.

I am going to stick with US places, because I don't know that many outside the US well.: (not in any order)

Key West. Its expensive, but nice if you don't go in the heat of summer.
King's Canyon National Park. A lot of what Yosemite has, but less trafficked. (Yosemite IS more spectacular, but I think King's Canyon makes a better vacation).
Tetons National Park.

Close behind.. The Grand Canyon, particularly in the spring (fall is not too bad, either).
Crater Lake
Redwood national Park

Also, though I said I would stick to the US, Victoria is pretty nice as well.

If you're looking for nice beaches, I wouldn't recommend going to Key West.

Yeah, true. I actually forgot about that part.

Sannabel Island used to have nice beaches, but I don't know what they are like now.

My absolute favorites are out west, but they are not the best for tourists, since they are not right by hotels or anything like that.

Add in the eating. I'm more of a steak guy but I get the concept of taking apart an orange then only serving the best parts once in a while.

1. Hawaii
Reason: Mostly a bunch of love-struck honeymooners with stars in their eyes, so on Maui and Kauai, it might be the safest place in the world.
In an hour or so you can drive from sea level to 10000 ft, to an environment that is essentially, the moon.

2. Switz
Reason: Insane...insane skiing
(Crested Buttte honorable mention. If you like the steeps its hard to find more of them.)

3. Caribbean

Reason: Water. Warm, crystal clear and you float with almost no effort. Relative safety dependent upon destination.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk
Too much. I know.
