I wasn't paying someone else to create a media that they already had more than 3X the needed budget for. It's not the same thing.

& With disc golfing there is no "try before you buy" system at all. And there is somewhere around 600 different patented designs to play with. So to save money most all of my discs were purchased in used lots. I also stick with Discraft.

And I do tithe. There's no assurances that any of those people tithe anything. I'm not necessarily saying that they should send their money to Africa. But they could spend it on medical research or community improvements. Or they could spend it on a disc golf disc... or their families...

It is the same thing. "3x the needed budget" is an arbitrary number. If you feel this way about the video game, do you feel the same regarding professional sports? The players of the NFL garner huge amounts of money; fighters in the UFC do as well, and I'm sure the budget costs of those sports are considerably less than the profits. Do you post pictures of skeleton children in the various sports threads? If you're going to guilt-trip people (which btw is no better than religious proselytizing that you've railed against in the past) then you better make sure your own stance is tenable. More money for the video game means faster production time, better production, lessened cost at purchase, etc. etc., which means there is a tangible benefit for the people who want the game. I'm sure you don't need 68 discs in the same manner the gamers don't need to donate the extra money; I get by with two discs. As far as the "try before you buy," every time I've gone discing, I've had several people offer me discs to try out.

And I do tithe. There's no assurances that any of those people tithe anything. I'm not necessarily saying that they should send their money to Africa. But they could spend it on medical research or community improvements. Or they could spend it on a disc golf disc... or their families...

Whether they tithe is irrelevant, and is a wholly subjective morality. I don't care about the African kids (or community improvement or what have you); they're just numbers to me. I will never meet them or bond with them. Assuming that people work for their money, they should be able to spend it however they please. Money is a barter system where hours of precious life are traded for money, the ability to get anything you want or need. Insisting that people should spend some portion of their money (hours of life that can never be replaced) for "the common good" or charity is an absurdity.

Basically what you're doing is like paying Apple to develop their next iphone, or Warner Brothers to make their next motion picture. And it's only an educated guess that the game will even be worth $20. They were asking for a $400,000 budget, and they already have $2.5 million. If you bought a whole bunch of Warner Brother's DVD's to collect, then that would be different.

Psssshhhh. You're kinda right in that there is nothing else this retarded in business. Customers donating money to push a production budget over 4X it's needed amount.... and then they're continuing to donate.... I mean, wtf America?

While the majority of backers are probably from America, Just scanning the backer list you can see some backers from around the world.

Currently at 2.81 million dollars with 33 hours to go. It'll probably hit 2.9 million---and we'll see if a final push allows them to hit 3 million.

Wow, black ginger, that's gotta be pretty unlikely. Also yeah, I know the song. Never realized the words are anagrams till I heard that song.

Hadn't heard of that game, I'll check it out.

They've recently just pasted 3 million dollars on kickstarter. The last 2 hours of funding (which ends today) is going to streamed on ustream, so you can watch the Double Fine offices rake in all the dough: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/667 ... -adventure

Loom is an amazing adventure game. I give it to people who don't even really like video games (the type who played Myst) to play and they usually really like it.

If I don't use a teal background, I usually use an image from Loom. It is a work of art. And all this before it was acceptable to call a video game a work of art!

Final-ish tally on Kickstarter -$3,336,371 with 87,142 backers. 3 backers also contributed another ~$110,000 outside of Kickstarter as well.
