Enemies of the Internet, by Reporters Without Borders

Postby AndyDufresne on Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:47 am

Stumbled across this newer report by Reporters Without Borders regarding countries that either are, or are making progress towards, some sort of censorship of their internal internet and access to it.

This seems like something that should be posted and thrive in our Off Topics forum. Check out the list and more information about the practices in each country.

You want us to censor the off-topics?

Oh no, nevermind... sorry, I misread that.

None of the countries on the enemies list were a surprise, but Australia and France on the watch list were. Not too worried about the French, though. They will probably develop a cyber Maginot Line, and saxi will just lead us all around it!

This wont be a popular thread in AN, for the sole reason that we will all mostly agree with it (it being anti-censorship)

In that case lets make it unpopular.

Anyone who attacks from a territory that shares a name or geographic area with a country on that list should get every player on the site except jefjef and the general automatically foed. I can imagine it would make the forum a surreal place.

I didn't read much of what was written here, but I nominate DoomYoshi as the first to be banned for something eggregious.

If people want, I can try to play devil's advocate.

By the way, I do think that the young peoples' prodigious use of the internet is really going to do something good for free speech in the future (once those young people get some power in politics).
