After ton of pot found in house, man says he smokes $9K worth of marijuana monthly

RIO GRANDE CITY — A man who admitted to storing more than a ton of pot in his basement told federal agents he burns though $9,000 every month smoking marijuana.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained 28-year-old Michael Sepulveda on Tuesday, a criminal complaint states.

Federal authorities place a bulk rate of $800 per pound on marijuana. That adds up to Sepulveda burning through 170 joints with one gram of marijuana each per day, every day, to reach to $9,000 on his habit in a month.

By comparison, Sepulveda’s house in Rio Grande City carries an annual assessed value of $2,800. Starr County property records show the house, located at 180 Suntex Road, to be the only one he owns.

Sepulveda told agents he expected to be paid $1 per pound for each of the 2,551 pounds of marijuana found in a basement accessible only from his bedroom, the complaint states.

Sepulveda said the drugs were the first time he stored bulk drugs in his house.

Must be crappy ditch weed stuff. My area is inundated, and even from friendly growers, an ounce is around $100 for primo stuff (regularly twice that if you aren't a local or friends with the grower). And yeah, I seriously doubt he's smoking 170 joints a day. He's probably just trying to beat intent to deal charges like an idiot.

Yup, pretty much just Mex brown. The price is so low because it is easy to get it across the river, but a hell of a lot harder to get it out of the Valley. And the 6+ oz a day habit, all bullshit, he's going for an incompetence due to addiction defense. He is just a cartel flunky, probably a mojado, so the feds will let him bond out, at which point he will cross the river south, get new id, and come back. Of course, a ton isn't a very big bust anyway. At least, not around here.

I used to smoke quite a bit but nowadays rarely.

And ps, about the guy in the OP... 170 grams a day isn't that unbelievable, it could be possible if the weed is really crappy, and the guy was extracting the oil from it which would reduce the weight a lot... but yeah, I still think he's bullshitting.

It is illegal in the US because our politicians are ignorant dickheads, and because they can steal so much money from the enforcement programs to line their own pockets.

If it was crappy weed, then yes. For what I consider decent weed... no chance.

A really crappy weed could contain as little as 5% THC, while average weed would be about 20%... so if you had 170g of that crappy weed it'd only be the equivalent of about 40g of average quality weed. And smoking or ingesting 40g a day isn't that far out, if you have a chronic habit...

The only obstacle would be the sheer amount you'd need to smoke, but if you extract the oil from the weed it would reduce that amount by a huge margin.
