Motorcycle appreciation and Jay

Postby Juan_Bottom on Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:32 pm

Springs here, and I'm seeing bikes all over. I'm thinking about buying a used BMW because I like those Euro Sport bikes myself. My old man rides a custom rat chopper.
What kind of bike do you ride? Or want?

Also, just for fun:

This is what Jay looks actually like. But he keeps his hair in a ponytail. What kind of bike do you think that he rides?

I'd give my left ball for a TreMoto tilt trike.

That thing is fucking cool!

I've only ridden a BMW a couple of times... comfortable, good for long trips. From what I understand, quite reliable.

Ducatis are expensive as f*ck and probably only worth it if you're obscenely rich.

Trikes are for old farts.

Don't get a Harley unless you like fixing it every other weekend. Plus they're the queen marys of bikes. Slow and cumbersome. A Shadow or Goldwing would be preferable.

I've never had the opportunity to ride a gixer... I've heard good things, but probably too much for me.

I ride a Yamaha FZ1000, and I'm very happy with it. Comfortable, perfect mix of handling and power for a moderately skilled rider such as myself, and I've never had any problems with it. I laid it down a year ago, had it back in shape in no time with little money. Not a lot of plastic, which I think is ugly and also it's expensive.

My dad rode a v-max for a number of years, it was a great bike. He's moved on since then, but yeah, good touring bike.

I guess it all depends on how skilled and/or serious you are. If you just want to cruise around town and look like a douche, get a hog and don the leathers. If you actually enjoy riding, find something you like.

 It's my fave bike....modded mine somewhat (jets, headers, airflow), like it needed more horses - sounds like a little v-8 with flowmasters (went with kerkers flat track pipes...cops love that...lol). We mostly play ride (dirtbikes...oldest son on a CR250, youngest rides with me), typically while camping or vacationing - 100 miles in a day in the mountains exploring with my sons (and racing on the twisty forest trails) is a damn good day ;o) Don't think I've put 1,000 miles on my street bike in the last 3 years :( Once my oldest gets his drivers licence, I am sure that will change....

That will change here shortly, I hope. I took the mandatory rider training class at the community college with a bunch of spodes that apparently had never even seen a motorcycle before and... they all "passed" the course  Reading the book now and taking the written test next friday. I can't believe, as old as I am, I've never had my endorsement. WTF?

Anyway, I'm looking at buying a dual sport so, if they make knobbies for a V-Max, you might wanna pick up a set 8-)

Is that the Carver there? That's awesome. Although arguably it's more of a 3-wheeled car than a motorcycle.
