Should moderators register their interests?

I was kind of torn between putting this in General Discussion, or here, but I decided not to interrupt the complaints about dice and congratulating/criticising the leader-board, plus a fair number of the General Discussion threads should probably be here anyway. So it's here.

So anyways...

The question is- should moderators list the usergroups and clans that they are members of? My general position is that they should, but primarily when they are in positions that could affect other members. A moderator is obviously less likely to ban (to use the most extreme example) a member of his or her own group or clan.

Any thoughts?

I think people who are racists, young-earth creationists, misogynists etc. should not be allowed to be moderators. Obviously people with such profoundly skewed worldviews are inherently unsuitable to be in any position of authority towards any other people.

Wouldn't that be explicit discrimination? (to reject people a position based on their religious belief?)

I think you're right, but I could certainly see where Natty's point would come in if the moderator were involved in (again, just taking the extreme side) a ban of a poster over something related to the subject.

The same logic applies to any atheist moderator. That atheist moderator might ban a poster for expressing "anti-atheist" views in a thread...

I wouldn't go so far as that, but would suggest recusal in certain cases.

I think we have a pretty diverse moderator group from a politics perspective.

EDIT - I voted yes, but I only think discussions and global moderators who are active in the forums should have to do this.
