A home owner is allowed to defend his property. He didn't deserve to have people break into his home and try to rob him, or worse.
No he didn't deserve to have someone break into his house. But kids don't deserve to be shot for a mistake either.
I live in the murder off and on again murder capital of Canada. We had 4.2 murders per 100,000 people last year (population of 120,000 and 5 murders). Do I feel unsafe in my own home? Nope. Our doors are unlocked when we are home, no matter the time of day. In fact the other night I left my garage door open all night by accident (the kids have a rec room out there with a PS3 and TV as well as 5 bikes, 2 lawnmowers, 1 snowblower, 3 set of hockey equipment and a bunch of other stuff) and when I realized it the next morning I didn't even panic as I knew everything would still be there, and sure enough it was. We're not armed up here and I am okay with that.
haha...you make it sound like your town is the Wild West. 4.2 murders per 100k is nothing in the US. New Orleans, the highest in the US, has literally 10 times as many murders.
