As a bit of an aside: does anyone know if Obama has changed his views on this issue, one way or the other, in the past eight years? Perhaps he's learned more about the issue, and would like to refine his position on it. I mean, his life has gone through some pretty drastic changes in that near-decade-long period; it would only make sense that his opinions on some things would have changed as he learned, and grew as a person.

In reality, Social issues are things people think about while polling, but it usually isn't a deciding factor.

Those numbers are so '08.

Support for same-sex marriage has been growing at such a fast rate the numbers are liable to change significantly if not annually, then every two years. The gap in the black support is probably still pretty big, but I don't know that in its entirety that it's as big as the white vote.

I'll try to find some 2011-2012 ones. You're cool, tgd, I'm just super cautious about numbers

Scotty's OP changes within his threads, I don't think the OP has much validity unless you you are of the opinion that nothing has been argued om the first place.

So, what's your point? That Scotty has no set point?

My point was that at the time of this thread creation, Scotty was correct and not "trolling" with inaccurate statements: Obama was not in favor of gay marriage. But after the thread was made, the opinion of the President evolved (as seen in Nag's link) and he is now in favor. So, both Scotty and Nag had accurate posts.

Well, even given the video scotty linked to, it's a flawed OP. Obama says that he personally thinks marriage is between a man and a woman, but is against making legislation to ban it, pretty much wants to kick the can to the states. He never said it's wrong. I wouldn't quibble, but when you put quotes around words, it should be what the person said.

Also, TGD, that 2008 (aka out of date) poll you quoted mentioned 51% of white people mentioned support gay marriage. Why is nobody talking about Romney losing white voters?
