Teacher Warns Student Could Be Arrested For...Student Speaks

Postby Phatscotty on Mon May 21, 2012 7:42 pm

This is what our children are learning in school? Seems like this is also one of the reasons education results continue to get worse and worse every year, despite spending more and more money on education every year. Obama increased education spending 100% in 2009-2010. At least one teacher is trying to return the favor... Education has become political, just like healthcare is about to be.

Does this go on in your children's school? Teaching your kids to hate people, and who to hate? I had 3 teachers like this. It really was sad to see people who sat next to me struggling to pass the class, and were getting bad grades for no other reason than they don't see things the same way the professor does. It was also bad of me to play along with the professor, just to get all A's. I was pretty young at the time, but what I do know is that, in my English Composition class, we never for one minute studied English Comp. Instead we watched movies like Bowling for Columbine, Farenheight 9-11, and had discussions which basically railroaded everybody into agreeing with the professor. It was straight brain-washing.

The woman's voice is the teacher. It gets more clear and things blow up around 1:10, teacher bullies and intimidates the student at 3:00

One....Crazy....Summer

Last Monday, a high school student in North Carolina engaged his social studies teacher in a heated debate about politics and the two leading presidential candidates. During the exchange, the teacher (an obvious Obama supporter) got very angry with the student and accused him of disrespecting the president. She even went so far as to tell the boy that he could be jailed for speaking ill of Obama.

Sarah Campbell of the Salisbury Post first reported on the story. She claims that the school district is not releasing the name of the teacher and that she is not responding to requests for public comment (although the two students identified her to the newspaper). According to Campbell’s story, the teacher will not be suspended or even face disciplinary action for what was heard on the recording. A statement from the school was released at the end of the week:

ā€œThe Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly.ā€

So, how bad was the exchange? It got fairly heated, with the teacher shouting at times. The kerfuffle started after one student asked a question about the teacher’s ā€œfact of the dayā€, which was written on the blackboard for the whole class, that said Romney was a bully back in high school.

A student asked: ā€œDidn’t Obama bully somebody, though?ā€
The teacher started to get angry and said:
ā€œNot to my knowledge.ā€
A couple of students relayed the story about Obama admitting that he bullied someone when he was younger. And that seemed to light the fuse on his teacher’s anger. A couple of the students exchanged words with the angry teacher.
ā€œStop! Stop! Because there’s no comparison. He’s running for president. Obama is the president.ā€
As one student attempted to argue for a fair, two-sided debate on the history of the candidates, he was shouted down and talked over by the teacher. She continued:
ā€œYou got to realize, this man is wanting to be what Obama is. There’s no comparison.ā€
Once again, the students pressed for equal discussion of the histories of both men, with one saying:
ā€œIf you’re gonna talk trash about one side, you gotta talk trash about the other.ā€
The teacher just seemed to dig her heels in deeper and press her defense of Obama telling the defiant teen:
ā€œYou will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom.ā€
Again the student persisted and invoked his First Amendment right.
ā€œI’ll say what I want.ā€
The still unidentified teacher read the student her rules…her Obama rules.
ā€œNot about him, you won’t!ā€
The back and forth continued and the most strident of the two students reminded his teacher that President Bush was constantly treated to negative statements (burned in effigy, called on to be hung, called every name in the book) about him while he was in office:
ā€œWhenever Bush was president, everybody talked sh-t about him.ā€
To which the teacher responded:
ā€œBecause he was sh-tty.ā€

The social studies educator went on for a full minute with more ranting, saying that people were arrested for saying derogatory things about President Bush. The student correctly reminded the teacher that opinions are protected, but you cannot be arrested unless you threaten the president.

Our research has not turned up a single case of anyone in America being arrested for speaking ill of former President Bush. The local newspaper story also mentioned that their discussions about the story with a political science professor could not recall the arrests that the teacher was speaking about.

Update:

We learned the name and the fate of the Social Studies teacher heard on the video posted below. Toyna Dixon-Neely is the woman heard yelling at students who dared to express negative opinions about President Obama. We also found out that Ms. Dixon-Neely’s outrageous statements may not have led to a strict punishment: the local newspaper is reporting that she has been suspended with pay. (Curiously the Huffington Post says that the teacher is on an unpaid suspension, pending the outcome of the investigation by the school board.)

The entire confrontation was recorded by a student and posted on YouTube. Listen below; slight content warning for language.

That's it. I'm going back to school......FOR FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People need to realize that teachers are just regular people given positions of power. They are no more intelligent than the average population and should be treated as such. There are a lot of teachers I had who were very intelligent people and deserved respect, and then there were some that were not nearly as intelligent, though these were few and I'm lucky to have gotten the education I did.

And this teacher sure is abusing her power. It almost seems like this teacher uses Obama to bash her students. I think this kid is going to be on TV soon. I am interested to see what he looks like and what else he has to say.

Anyone have an opinion on what the teacher meant when she said "You should be in my other class..." What does that mean? Is it because there are bigger kids who support Obama in that other class? Other students who would join in with the teacher intimidating this student?

Either way, I definitely put this teacher in the less intelligent category.

I hear what you are saying, I just think it's more than that. Because of the way she tries to shut the student down repeatedly..."NU-AH!!! NU-AH!!!" I bet you the students hear that every single day, every single hour. I bet that is part of her "teaching strategy", screaming like that. You can tell she got in the students face around 3:00, when the student said "Obama is not God" the teacher ran over to him and you can hear she was slapping her hands together, much in the way people do just before a fight and try to intimidate people by flailing their arms, or punching their palms. I think the teacher has a bit of hatred for the student.

Race might be an issue here. I think she said "You should be in my other class" because there are students of different races in the other class.

I didn't watch the video, just read most of what was there. I don't know about the race thing, I just think this is a teacher that never matured beyond high school (maybe younger yet). I feel sorry for all the students out there that don't get a quality education because there are not enough qualified teachers out there.

you should really watch the video. There is much more to it than the text. You can hear the tone of voice, the swear words, you can even hear the teacher charge the student! Is it also clear the teacher bullied the kid.

Definite insanity, though, if the kid was applauding Obama, and the teacher was telling him to be quiet, Phatscotty's thread would simply read:

Students undisciplined in classrooms and wont be quiet when they should.

This is a teachable moment.

Sane response: This is terrible, the teacher acted completely innapropritately and disciplinary measures should be taken.

Scotty response if this had happened on the other side: The kid shouldn't have provoked the teacher. It's disrespectfull. Besides you hear how he talks? He's probably on drugs and is just arguing because he's a bully. He should respect the teacher's authority in the classroom.

Scotty further response after everyone points out he's being an idiot: You guys misunderstand, of course the teacher was in the wrong, I'm just saying, it's partly the kids fault, he shouldn't have challenged the teachers authority blah blah blah.

I'm sorry. You are wrong. Teachers are normally more stupid than anyone else. They can see their students passing them in education in front of them and they act in jealous ways.

Sorry if anyone is a teacher here. I just hate public school teachers, they are the worst, they make me puke. Here in Mexico I'd say teachers have more guilt in the current situation that organized crime. They are lame.

Yeah, sorry for that. It's sure something particular to Mexico tho, were teachers aren't happy with not teaching anything to kids, they actually teach them their pettiness ans bad costumes.

If you take the average Mexican public school teacher, I bet any 12-year old kid of a first world country knows more than him.

This. If you talk back to the teacher, you should expect that she'll make good on her threats, call the cops, who'll beat the tar out of him for badmouthing Obama, taze him a few times, and probably kill him. Totally justified because he was disrespectful.

Let me know when schools start ignoring educating students and instead focus on brainwashing students into Conservatives. Until then you can take a break from fantasizing about the opposite of reality and stop making excuses for something that is clearly inexcusable.

Another thing that pisses me off, the teacher told the student "I'm gonna tell your dad that you aren't doing the work" and he says "go head. My dad already knows I have been doing the work" Basically, the teacher threatened to fail him!

Do you care about education? It doesn't sound like you do. Maybe if people stopped caring about who was pointing out the problems in education and started caring about the problems pointed out in education, our public education system would not be a tragedy.

Are you mad that a teacher is robbing children of their education, or just mad that it is me pointing it out?

Did you see what the kid was wearing? He was wearing a rainbow, death metal shirt! With disrespectful clothing like that, then tazing and kicking him is completely justified. This debate is over.
