The Obama Truth Team

Postby CreepersWiener on Wed May 02, 2012 3:35 pm

I am an Obama Truth Teamer. I get emails from the Obama campaign to help shed light on the lies being spread by the conservative right.

This is my latest Truth Teamer email from Obama's Truth Team:
Friend --

This one couldn't wait for the tipsheet -- I need your help getting a few important facts out about a negative ad that is so blatantly false, the Washington Post said the "erroneous" attacks were made "without any shame."

The ad was created by Mitt Romney's Big Oil allies, "Americans for Prosperity," and they just launched it in some important battleground states.

I want to make sure you have all the facts you need about it, so I recorded a quick video here in the office. Can you watch it, then, more importantly, share it with your friends?

Here's something else the Washington Post had to say: "There is no excuse for these kinds of ads, which take facts out of context or simply invent them."

We're going to call these groups out each and every time we see ads like this, which means that as the pace of the campaign picks up, you'll be hearing from me and others even more regularly about how you can help spread the word.

Thanks in advance for everything you're doing to fight for the truth.

- Stephanie

Don't be so scared of buster ass politicians.

This happens around election time.

Vote for Ron Paul in your primaries and caucuses, and we won't have to put up with this crap every time.

Someday? He was the best, most brilliant president of all time on day 1....no question asked, no record necessary.

Another Obama Truth Team update! Fresh off the interwebz!

Friend --

Yesterday, President Obama had some pretty powerful words on what this campaign is going to be about -- and I wanted to make sure folks on the Truth Team heard them.

At a press conference Monday, the President was asked why the campaign is taking a look at Mitt Romney's record as a corporate buyout specialist, a record Romney's been claiming as his chief qualification for the presidency.

The President said that while there's nothing wrong with private equity, Romney's priority wasn't to create jobs -- it was to maximize profits for partners and investors. A president has to focus on more than just that.

Watch the rest of his response on why Romney's record should be looked at, then share it far and wide:

Video: President Obama on Romney's record

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via Email
President Obama said of Romney, "his main calling card for why he thinks he should be President is his business expertise ... And when you're President, as opposed to the head of a private equity firm, then your job is not simply to maximize profits. Your job is to figure out how everybody in the country has a fair shot."

Folks, that's what we're going to be fighting for this year -- and it's up to us to lay out the stark differences between Romney's views and our President's. Get our President's back -- pass it on:

http://my.barackobama.com/Truth-Team-May22

Thanks,

Stephanie

P.S. -- Here's the video the President refers to in his response. Definitely worth a watch.

... Awesome, a Truth Team member has come to give us some facts. Did you get a brown uniform and a pair of shiny boots with that job?

... Give us some truth!! (God knows we won't hear it on television)

1. Did Obama or his mother ever declare him to be anything other than an American citizen for the purpose of registering him in a school in either Indonesia or Hawaii?

2. Did Obama seek and receive a scholarship to Occidental College as a foreign student?

3. Did Obama ever write a law review article for the Harvard Law Review? If not, how was it he was named the president of that publication without ever contributing to it.

4. Has Obama ever publicly renounced his affections – clearly set forth in his book – for communist student groups and professors while in college?

5. Just what was the real nature of Obama’s relationship with communist domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn? Obama says he was just some guy that lived down the street. If so, why did Obama chose ā€œsome guy’sā€ living room to announce his entry into politics.

6. Has the Obama campaign dispatched attorneys and investigators to secure the release of court records and other information on major Romney donors?

7. Was Obama ever a genuine law professor? Or was he given a position and a course to teach at that law school to please some trustee of the school?

8. Let’s see the syllabus for the course on Constitutional law that Obama taught – either as an instructor or a professor. It seems that the course – the ONE course he taught – was limited to the 14th Amendment and its role in civil rights protests.

... (anybody "brave" enough to look into these questions might make a few interesting discoveries that won't mesh with the image).

The whole damned thing is Keyensian economics. Higher fuel efficiency requirements just lead to corners being cut in other areas. If you put a car on the market tomorrow that gets 100 miles to the gallon, you will be rich in a week. You can't spend your way into prosperity. The clean energy bullshit won't work just by shoving more money down the rabbit hole. the technology hasn't been developed to a useable point yet. This isn't some massive conspiracy, all the major oil companies have their own versions in development. (Have to be ahead of the curve. Business is buisness.) Obama gets as much money as Romney from oil companies. In many cases, more. And this woman has the same pretentious, smug attitude one would expect from somebody who believes that they are part of the all knowing inside group. "uhmm... no... bla bla bla...". Who talks like that? What, are we 15?

The deputy campaign whatever in the first video sounded very convincing. She was literally angry about the lies being spread.

I also get emails from the Obama campaign (I sent the president an email asking him not to raise taxes on the "working upper middle class" as it would be unfair and then I got put on his campaign email list). I don't get the video emails (fortunately). The emails I get are really funny. There is a lot of "THIS IS RIDICULOUS! HOW DARE THEY?!?!?!" Really good stuff.

I don't blame him for rationally responding to the incentives provided by the rules of the game (i.e. American elections); however, for me, that doesn't justify the status quo nor does it imply that I support such a corrupt system.

I do blame him for being a crony capitalist. That type of blame seems fair and accurate.

The problem comes from citizens believing that Obama is not a crony capitalist (or that Mitt Romney is pro life and looking out for small businesses). And then when Obama acts like a crony capitalist or Mitt Romney crushes small businesses, it's someone else's fault. This bothers me.

For sure.

In everyday life, how do you convince people to look beyond their own confirmation bias?

(Even clearly stating the facts can be counter by outright refusal to think clearly.)

Unfortunately, my audience is not national so I'm not able to reach everyone. I have been able to convince some people that voting between Republican and Democrat is virtually worthless, but not enough clearly.

Friend --

Have you heard one of Mitt Romney's most outlandish attacks on the President? "Since President Obama assumed office three years ago, federal spending has accelerated at a pace without precedent in recent history." Strong words that might be an effective criticism of the President, were it not for one small issue:

It's completely and utterly untrue.

The Wall Street Journal's Market Watch ran a report this week titled, "Obama spending binge never happened," which showed that federal spending is actually rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower was president. At the same time, we've made strategic investments in the things we need to build an economy meant to last, like education, innovation, and clean energy. But that hasn't stopped Romney and his Republican allies from using ridiculous and laughable terms -- like "spending inferno" -- to describe the President's fiscal management.

Mitt Romney's general disregard for the truth is why you all are so important to this campaign. So many Truth Team members have told me: You give us the facts to get the President's back, and we'll get it done.

So check out the chart and make sure your friends see it, too:

Obama spending binge never happened,

Important as this chart is, it's not the only item I wanted to make sure you saw this week. Check them out.

Romney Economics
Mitt Romney's record as a corporate buyout specialist is under examination. The decisions he made at Bain Capital -- loading companies with debt, sometimes to the point of bankruptcy, but walking away with millions in profit -- show that his values in the White House would have a devastating impact on America's middle class.

Romney is running on what he says is his record of creating "over 100,000 jobs" in the private sector -- a claim that doesn't stand up to any scrutiny. Regardless, Romney's mission in the private sector wasn't to create jobs -- it was to maximize profits for his investors. As President Obama explained this week, that's not what the president of the United States has to do. Take a look for yourself, then pass it on.

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via Email
Romney on education
Mitt Romney made some more ridiculous claims and assertions this week, this time on education policy. He even had the nerve to tell a group of educators that: "It's not the classroom size that's driving the success of those school systems."

President Obama and Romney's education policies and records speak for themselves. Check out our blog post and let others know about the stark differences between the two on this issue:

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via Email
Fact-checking Romney's new ad
Romney released a new TV ad this week that made more empty promises about what he'd do on the first day of his presidency. He said he'd reduce the deficit, but he'd actually add $5 trillion to it. He said he'd "stand up to China," but his record says otherwise. I could go on. Take a look at our blog post, and let others know about the reality behind Romney's latest promises:

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via Email
Last: If you receive a robocall, chain email, or piece of mail about Barack Obama that you just know is not true, can you let us know? We've created a new tool on the Truth Team site that makes it easy to report an attack. Help us catch these smears before they have a chance to spread too far.

Thanks,

Stephanie

I have a question on the latest truth team email - If, under the president's administration, the spending is at its lowest it has ever been, does that mean the president is for low spending? If he's for low spending, doesn't that necessarily make him a poor candidate for liberals and Democrats?

... That graph is a fabrication originally created by MSNBC, and since debunked.

... The President's first year in office is not included in the Obama column (Stimulus, anyone?). The logic was that the first year's spending belonged to Bush, as the problems of the day belonged to Bush, and Obama spent to fix them. ... seriously.

... I am still waiting to hear some truth with regard to my previous.

Although I know that most of their premise has already been debunked, even accepting it at face-value can show that it's a joke;

So the spending isn't growing "as much", yet the deficit keeps ballooning? Why don't they just stop the spending increases all together? Also, their spending isn't increasing by as much because Obamacare's spending provisions haven't fully kicked in. They're currently primarily taking in taxes instead of spending money on it. The amount of government spending will skyrocket once those policies take effect (unless the Supreme Court protects freedom and stops it).
