What does "doing all the home chores" really mean?

Postby PLAYER57832 on Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:34 am

Its sort of a duel question: What is considered "really clean"/"basically clean" today AND is there a difference between the way various people (married/unmarried, men/women) see things?

NOTE -- DEFINITELY NOT trying to point fingers here, just curious if any differences line up.

Would be really interesting if those of you who live with other adult people (spouse/roommate, etc.) had their partner answer to see if there was any disparity.

PS found the brightnest site to be of pertinent interest for anyone wanting a little help. (not posting the direct link because I think that is a rule violation???, but google the name .. or just add ".com" and you should find it.)

PLAYER, you need to set it up so that people can vote for three options.
The first time I was married, this chore question was a bone of contention. She was super-fussy, I'm far from that. But that meant that, when the house was in a state I felt passable, she would nag the hell out of me to help get it to the state she wanted. While I understood the principle (why should she do all the work, etc), she completely failed to get mine (it doesn't need doing).
This is one of the major reasons she is now referred to as "my first wife".

Single TGD - "Doing all the chores" means making sure my bed is uncluttered and the TV is off before I go to sleep.

Married TGD - "Doing all the chores" means everything is clean, spotless, and well organized.

My how life has changed.

My sheets after my senior year in college looked like the shroud of Turin. I had cups with water and cigarette butts all over my room. I had never vacuumed, dusted, or washed my sink. My room smelled of cigarettes and stale beer. It was awesome.

I can't vote for more than one thing, so I am very confused by the poll.

Why do I get the feeling that almost anything I say in this thread will become ammunition in PLAYER's latest domestic feud?

Wait, are "really clean" and "basically clean" fighting? I don't understand why it's a duel question?

At least 4 options have to be available.

as an androgynous married man who lives with my parents and yet feels so alone in this world, but enjoys kittens, four options is not nearly enough

I'd put myself at around a 1.5. My wife is a 2. I'm a married man, with no kittens, but two cats. I'd guess they're both 1's, maybe a bit less.

Also, BBS wins this thread.

I didn't see an option for "If the houseboat is rockin', don't come aknockin'". That's really the only one that matters.

LOL I hear the opposite, too. Some guys/gals are great housekeepers when not married and then once married turn into slobs.
