You sure you want to buy a Greek shirt?

Not any of the Greek defense, that's for sure.

You might want a Petr Cech shirt now.

There are two Papadapouli on the team...

I'm definitely buying a jersey. I think I'll go with Charisteas. I want to make sure everyone knows it's Greece, so maybe I'll go with Papadapolous.

I really don't know many of the greece players, I don't think many of them play in the big 3 European Leagues. I know Samaras fairly well as he plays for Celtic(a Scottish team). He's a pretty good player(for the Scottish league, though his scoring record isn't anything to shout home about, in the national arena I'd rate his as average, but I'd rate greece as average so that's maybe not syaing much), but I've no idea how he rates against the other greek players.

Samaras has shown what he is like in the tournament. He is a great player but not a Striker. He does better on the left wing, linking up and using his physical abilities. He is sometimes fantastic and at other times terrible, he frustrates the fans and people have a bit of a love/hate relationship with him because of it. Personally I love big Sammy and his world class chesting ability.

Samaras just needs to grow out a fuller beard and he'd look like Jesus.

He's a big dude.

I commented to one of my co-workers that all the Greeks look the same (as opposed to the Czechs, who don't) and she pointed out Samaras with his long hair and beard. I replied that he would look the same if he shaved his head.

I've watched soccer for a number of years now and the diving (or flopping or faking) still annoys me. There was a play yesterday where one of the Czech players was dribbling and got a tiny bit tangled with a Greek player. The Czech player pulled away, taking two more steps, and THEN fell to the ground holding his knee. I almost got up and smashed the TV.

That is the biggest reason I dont watch much football anymore. I'd rather go to the cricket or rugby.....at least they can stand up in a strong breeze.

I had noticed a distinct lack of flopping in this Euro, until I watched the Greeks yesterday. The Czechs were doing it too, but the Greek team was so bad in that respect (and other sportsmanship-related areas), that they're now ranked 16th on my list of most respectable teams in the Euro Cup.

They were pretty ridiculous, I'll have to admit (although my rooting interest lay entirely with the Greeks). It's the holding the knee or shin part that really bothers me. Fake the fall down? Okay, I get that; gives you an advantage. Grasping your knee, ankle or shin and writhing in fake pain? C'mon now; what the hell does that do for you?

Did you notice the torn shirt on one of the Czech stars, in the first half? I believe he was given a yellow card for that play.

I only watched the second half (well, most of it, until the end, when I threw my baklava on the ground and walked out).

Unfortunately. Although, even with a loss tonight, they could move out of the group stage with a huge win over Portugal.

Then again, with the way they've been playing so far, they may not even score a single goal in this tournament.

Looks like it, 0-2 with 30 minutes or so to go.

Its ze germans man, like investing in blue chip stock; sure not the best return and sometimes falls over, but f*ck me they are reliable.

How many tourneys recent years have the germans flopped?

Unlike the dutch/portugese/italys who have awesome teams but so often wheels fall off when it comes down to it.

The funny part is that that Dutch could still move on (if they and the Germans both win their third games by a good enough margin), and the German's could still be eliminated at the group stage (if both they and the Dutch lose their third games by a decent margin).

Are you aware of the likelihood of this happening? Germany are playing Denmark.

10th ranked side in the world; and upsets in soccer are rarities amirite?

(New Zealand DREW with Italy in the last world cup...)
