In conclusion, don't try to argue with me about these things. I'm not going to try to argue with a chemist about chemical reactions because I know very little about it, so don't argue with me about linguistics. I know a lot about linguistics.[/quote]

Well, this is a thread about the Higgs boson, which is physics, which is my thing.

Anyway, there's one of three possible happenings:
(1) I don't understand what you're saying
(2) You don't understand what I'm saying
(3) tits

choose wisely

One said, "they call it the 'God particle'? Ninja, please. I don't care what they call it."

The other said, "saying 'God particle' makes you appear uninformed to some people."

once more, with emotion.

there was an emotional reaction against the word "god". the word itself violates their belief system, as i demonstrated with my counterexamples

Like I said, it's (1). But I guess because it's (1) you don't understand what I mean by (1), do you?

Also, since there are no tits, gtfo.

Scientists/ scientific media mostly call it Higgs boson.

Shitty sensationalist media mostly call it "god particle".

Therefore I posit a likely correlation between what people call it and what kind of media they are exposed to.
A further likely correlation between what kind of media people choose to view and how informed they are also seems feasible.

So, imo, it doesn't seem too far fetched to assume that a person calling it "the god particle" is less informed than someone calling it "higgs boson".

Religious people believe god created everything so there for all particles are the god particle. Why single out the Higgs Boson particle? Is it special? Does it have a whip and cuffs and subjugates all other particles?

Call it what it is, the Higgs Boson particle. AoG you should know this of all people.

You do realize that the guy who coined the word "god particle" (though he doesn't like that it stuck for the Higgs) is a scientist?

I highly doubt most of the people who call it the god particle actually think it's godly, or just related to god in any way.

It is called the god particle for a reason though; largely because it ties together two seperate theories into a unified theory that covers both general relativity and quantum physics (ToE or theory of everything).

(simplified since Im not that smart so struggle to fully explain it "correctly")

A scientist (Leon Lederman) called it the "goddamn particle", which is something completly different. That was 1993, it was meant to be a book title, but the publishers refused the title and decided to call it "god particle" .
