Slowness in Forum? Banner Size?

Has anyone else recently experience a slow-down or hangin of your browser when going into these forums?

I am hardline connected to my modem... so it's not WIFI.
I haven't noticed an issue on other sites.

I suspect some of the banners that people are using for their signatures are too big. Some have lots of motion graphics.

Is there a standard that can be imposed to reduce the size of these an therefore reduce the bandwidth consupmtion?
Can I make an adjustment to my preferences to not view peoples banner signatures???

For the record: BOB only hides things, it doesn't stop the browser from fetching the images. But some signatures are huge (5 mb is the largest one I've seen), that could definately be a problem.
