Not really, eating habits and metabolism are linked, sure, but eating habits can be altered in a day.

Metabolic adjustment could well take time, maybe even years, but eating habits?

Yeah, eating habits, as in forcing yourself to consume less than normal. Your body/brain will still feel hungry because it's used to consuming the previously normal amount, so for awhile it'll keep sending signals that you should consume the "normal" amount.

Even amount rarely comes into the equation when it comes to habits. Fill up on fresh veg till you're not hungry.

Hence eating habits can be altered in a day. I'm using that as an extreme, but it really doesn't take much to alter an eating habit.

Ugh, I did that for a couple months, but it was terrible.

I much prefer some form of intermitent fasting. I.e. you only eat either 1 meal + some fruit and shit or 2 meals without snacks a day and nothing else. You keep your calorie count the same but you actually get to feel fucking full once a day. Also don't have to waste so much time making/getting food.

Timing your cardio/gym can be tricky though. I know one insane fucker who literally eats only once a day and goes to the gym right before eating, so when he works out he hasn't eaten in ~22 hours. I don't think I could do that shit, seems to work for him though.

Honestly, I wouldn't know, and perhaps you're right. I'm just recalling a lecture from about 6 years ago.
