Not unless I was sure I couldnt get a hotter girl. Even then she would have to have some pretty sexy brains going on to keep me interested.

On a more serious note - dude if you really do look like aragorn then it's no surprise your marriage works. Hell, I"d marry you. Maybe not for 1,00 years though - maybe like 200.

No wonder your relations do not work. All you guys care about it looks.

My relations do not work. They live on benefits, like me. its our human rights.

Obviously. I mean, if you half that number and it's a woman.

Says the guy who thinks marriage is defined by a supernatural entity.

Mind you, the supernatural entity is the one who created marriage, I don't even know why you atheists even marry, it's a religious thing. And it's also a promise to god, your parnter and the world that you stay together until death itself completes the contract. If you break the contract, not only do you betray your parnter, you also betray god.

Thats your belief which is fine in itself but it doesn't explain why so many ' religious ' couples get divorced and more pertinently it doesn't add anything to the debate.

Because they are still human. And it's not my belief either, it's a fact that marriage started from the bible. Of course nowadays almost no one marries in the church anymore, but still, it's a religious ceremony.

It's kinda useless to even get married as a nonbeliever.

And religious people divorcing is sad, actually any kind of divorce is sad, but we're still human, so we do make mistakes.

I dont know where you get your information from but marriage did not originate in the bible.
In actual fact the religious marriage contract you subscribe to is fairly recent , it was codified by the RC Church in the 16th century. Even after this date most protestant groups , including the English pilgrims , insisted that marriage was a secular matter.

Rillee? This could be news to a lot of Jews.

I'm not saying this is or isn't true, just that I've never heard anything like this in my 126 years on this Earth.

Anyway, back to my question - take sex out of the equation. Assume you and your wife both stopped aging whenever you wanted and were both asexual. Would you want to be married for 1,000 years?

1000 years is more than enough time to experience everything in the world you would like to experience (within reason) a number of times. Why experience it with the same person over and over again.

I vote for a series of short term marriages.

Do people get married because they know it's only a 40 year or so commitment?
My answer is yes.

And on top of that, I do believe that marriage does not end with death in this life but your union carries with you into heaven. So, one could say that I got married forever.

That said, I know a lot of people have real problems that cause divorces. I do not think every divorce had to happen and some of those could have been worked out. But there is a good portion that maybe shouldn't have gotten married in the first place and they need to end it and move on. For me, I knew that I knew that I knew that my wife was the one. We have had our problems and have had to really struggle at times. But I can say that out of the almost 22 years we have been married only one year of that we really hell between us. Everything else has been life trying to beat us down and we have faced it together.

The solution is simple:

a) don't marry stupid people
b) if you partner barks, you need to take a closer look at them - the ears and any tail are a dead giveaway
