mods, out of an abundance of caution, please pre-emptively move this thread to the American politics sub-forum

I think the title should be changed to "live off your parents" as I've seen a trend of parents purchasing homes for their adult children.

Age ain't nothing but a number.

If you're in school (primary or secondary) for your first degree, you're ok to live at home.

If you've gotten your primary school degree and aren't in secondary school, you should be working and paying rent and/or living on your own.

How long can you stay on your parents healthcare plan now? 25 or 26 or something like that? That is what I'd say.

Agreed, and family is family. Whatever you're comfortable with,
age should not be a determining factor.

We don't all live in America though.. how about a non-American based opinion.

Heck, I am 23 and now live with my parents (after 4 years of independent living at uni) though I am in full time employment and it saves me a shit ton of money so I don't feel a rush to move out. They're not here half the time anyway, and when they are I have the freedom to do what I want/when I want so it is no bother.

I live in a very small town, I believe there might be like 1 or 2 places for rent, I'm not married, and there's plenty of space for me here.

I don't think I should move out. Besides in Mexico that's very normal, if you are not married.

I've lived by myself in the past for like 7 years tho.

I do think I have to move out, but from this boring town.

I essentially agree but would allow for about a year after getting the first degree as the job finding period.

Other than that get your own house. I'd rather live in a box on the side of the road than my parents' houses at this point.

The better question would be; who lives in their parents basement over the age of 30 and have the maximum amount of active games going on.

i moved back to my parent's after leaving london last year for a couple of month and I was running crazy when they were actually home. I don't understand how can people accept to live under other people's rules where you live once you're an adult... saxi gave the example of italy but it s the same thing in spain, and it's not going to get better as over 50% of people 20-35 are unemployed there.

Someone should start a fan fiction thread where nietzsche, nagerous and AoG are all flatmates.

nietzsche: Hey, who ate my chimichangas?
nagerous: Not me, I've only had E and Vodka for the last 6 weeks.
    nietzsche & nagerous: AooooooGGGGGGG??!
    AoG: {guilty look}

Maybe the difference between Mexico and Spain and in general Europe is that houses are a bit bigger here?

A Korean friend was showing me pictures of her family and I made the stupid question, "why does your family live in a small apartment?", that came out of my mouth without thinking, and she was ashamed. I had seen her go shopping and she would spend a lot of money on fancy clothes, I thought she was rich. Being an stupid knowing nothing Mexican I assumed she lived in a big house. I was watching in tv the other day that a very small apartment in Japan can cost up to 2 million dollars. With 2 million dollars you build a big ass mansion in Mexico. And I mean BIG.

The only problem I encounter with living with my mom and sister is that if I want to bring a girl to sleep here I do it from the back door lol.

What about bringing your parents to live with you?

My mother-in-law lives with my wife and I.

She was living with my wife (who was an only child) prior to us getting married, as she really couldn't afford to live on her own.
(My MIL that is.)

So they moved together and together were able to buy a condo... if they had lived separately the wife would have been in an apt. and the MIl would have been in subsidized housing. So to live nicer AND to NOT have to ask for Gov't handouts (for MIL) they moved in together.

It's one thing for an adult child to mooch of their parents.

It's another for a family to live together and share expenses.

It wouldn't work for everyone.

My MIL is now 78 and would be either in squalor or in a nursing home if she wasn't with us.

HUH? Why does your sister prefer you do girls in the back door?

Oh wait - is it like a Catholic thing? Preserving their virginity or whatever?

if you live in a big city, the housing is expensive , if you don't it's not as much in any country. offer and demand related to national average net income and quality of housing available... so if it's cheap in mexico why live with your parents? how old are you by the way?

That's a thing I will never understand about other cultures.

How do you send your mother or father to a home? After all they did for you, when they can't take care of themselves you decide you are too busy and put them away?

I know this sounds very judgemental and I might be insulting someone, I bet there are circumstances that I've never encountered myself and it isn't fair of me to say those things but sincerely that's how I think.

I do understand it's cultural.
