Aw, I'm daming you? I didn't know that. That makes me sad. :(

Your friend on WoW calls his sword 'she', and this is proof that it's okay to assume that your god is male.

Why? =)

I'm playing in a GURPS game that's running through a lot of the old Ad&D classic modules. The barbarian in our group has acquired the sword Blackrazor, which feeds on the blood of its victims and gives its wielder various powers based on what it kills (watch out if it attacks magical constructs or the undead, though - the results are harmful for its bearer then).

Anyway, the barbarian is probably the most cunning of the characters. His IQ might not be as high as the wizards', but there's no better person to have on your side in a fight. He's convinced that Blackrazor is female when it urges him to give in to its bloodlust, and the sword's not even a living thing. One needn't be biological to have qualities associated with one gender or another - words in French, Death and Fate, the Earth, and starships all can be described in masculine or feminine terms. It's not the same as anthromorphism (although Pratchett, Gaiman, et. al. do employ personification).

Besides, most Muslims, Christians, and Jews refer to God using the masculine, and that's how he's referred to in their sacred texts, so there's precedent.

Well to be honest I think the whole concept of christianity cute. I mean I am not going to judge you if thats what you choose to believe, but I find the whole thing nothing more than a fairytale.

But the whole god has a gender thing stands out for me.

We all call the clock a "she", but we don't believe it's actually a female. So it is possible to reference an entity/object which has no real gender as either a he or a she without believing it's actually is one. The real question however is if religious people do this when they think of god or if they think of a large imposing white haired caucasian man. I think it's pretty common to do the latter, and that is kinda cute I agree with you. Cute in a pathetic way that is.

Up until I just responded to you then, you were speaking and arguing with yourself. You poor thing, no one was paying you the attention you so desperately need. The fact that you still persisted in pithy attempts to communicate whilst no one responded back indicates that, if anyone, you are the likeliest candidate for a nutjob. It's not healthy to talk to yourself, perhaps a counsellor would come in handy? Or better yet stop trolling and post something worth replying to. I am just about finished giving you the attention you're starving for.

No no no that's not how you do it. Don't pretend like you have something better to do. I've seen your posts, 40 rows full of horseshit about as intellectual as a chimpanzee going bananas on a typewriter. You're here being all religiously fanatic because you have doubts and need to test your faulty logic to see if it holds. And unless you haven't noticed, it doesn't.
But don't stop, god knows this place is boring and the occasional nutjob is refreshing. One thing that intrigues me about religious people is how they justify their positive belief in god. There's obviously no evidence for his existence so I'm curious as to how someone can assume that what it says in for example the bible simply is true. How do you do that?
Atheism on the contrary is not a positive belief in anything, atheism is absence of belief in the supernatural and deities. To feel confident in your atheism you don't need to know there isn't a god, all you need to do is know that no evidence for the existence of god has been scientifically proven. So I'm asking you, what makes you so sure that he exists?

cuz the Bible says so. And the Bible is the word of God. And those Bible-writers and story weavers were divinely inspired by God--who of course communicated directly through their quills/mouths as they belched out the holy word. At least, that's what the Bible tells us.

I haven't damned anyone (to my knowledge) and I'm fairly certain the religion I affiliate with has not damned you either. But, hey, if you want to be damned (by my religion), I'll see what I can do tomorrow morning.

Can you include me in your next prayer? God won't listen to me so I'd like a medium. Ask him if he can help me discover a theory of eveything. That would be helpful, thanks.

But you can't baptize someone who's already been baptized can you? Yes when I was a small child some weird priest poured holy water over my head. Oh and btw, I'll see you at your next gig, prepare to get heckled! Christian style!
