Congratulations tr71123 and Plowable Earth on being our first majors. To what do you attribute all of your success?

EDIT: Let's add wacicha to the list of new majors.

Congratulations guys! I think this is further proof that the rank of general is attainable, just hard to get.

Yeah I think it's definatly attainable. It's just going to require a high win percentage to get the points needed.

One would need at least 75% win rate in 6 player games to become a general, thats crazy

... Play Doubles Matches, Double Turns. Wait for unsuspecting newbies to wander in.... and then hold your turn for 23 hours and 58 minutes every day, finishing with effective quadruple turns every time.

... That's how some (at least 1 to be sure) have gained this rank.

... Rather takes the polish off those crossed blades, in my humble opinion.

... Though some, I am sure, have earned it through strategy and guile.

I thought that was rather a bold statement to make there Nobu, even a bit controversial so i looked at the game logs , and sad to say , your spot on. Guess it would be a bit naive not to expect "rank hunters" here at cc but the system that allows the game to flow quicker is open to abuse in this way and unless Lack can come up with something, we gotta put up with it , eventually, they`ll find it harder to get games.
Talking of our esteemed leader....well he`s nestled there comfortably at 1050 on the ladder so he definately aint abusing the system.....lol :D

... Yeah, I fell victim to one of our vaunted "Majors" and felt more than a bit let down. Looking for a serious challenge and wanted to see how the truly talented made things happen.... only to find myself bamboozled! (good word, bamboozle - nothing can quite replace its meaning combined with connotations of treachery). Stuck in my craw, so to speak.

no one said there was anything evil about hanging turns though... it's true, i am in a doubles game with major tr and he is hanging every turn so he can get together with his captain partner to pull a double, so i just do it back to prevent that. all you need is to be at the computer right before the end of the turn and it's no big deal. in my opinion, it's just part of there being double turns in a game. if you don't like it, you probably don't have much of a choice but to join games with no double turns, or play private games, because i have a feeling we'll be seeing people pull it more and more.

... Right you are, and lesson learned. But keep in mind, most of those red question mark new guys are not aware that they're about to get used. For those of us who have been here long enough to know better, it's a different story.

Holding is obnoxious.

My take is that those that employ it would maybe fair less well on a Standard Classic Board Game where you had to play by the rules as originally intended.

Congrats to those that have made Major, however.

As for the comment made about how easy it would be to always be at a computer for when a turn will be over........all I can say is that there is life BEYOND Risk and perhaps some members have duties, work or other hobbies that would preclude such a time commitment.

Also: Am I the first person to take a Major out of a game? Game 5927
Sorry about that, Major........

i have been a major 6 times once for 3 days i stare at my computer every chance i get i even bought the t mobile card for my portable so while i'm out and about i can check on things including but not only risk --if i see i have a turn i take it i have not and never will hang on purpose i scroll thru all my games find my turns - play them - refresh - start scrolling again every now and then i see that when i left the last game i forgot to stop reinforcements so i jump back in click the button (excuse is i'm old) but i have never let it stay holding for more than it took to find it and i don't exit until i have no games left to move I am so happy to get to move that it needs to be done then i could not let that little green or yellow light stay lite longer than nessesary. i must admit i am not a great player but am having great fun most of the time it seems- like chess - the winner is he who made the next to the last mistake and took advantage of the last mistake made like not wearing my right glasses and not seeing 1 little man in argintina i owned every other country but w/ 1 man and a set he had enuf to kick my butt -- so what i am trying to say is some of us got to our ranks just by playing and i have played rookies and lost and won-- most of the people i played would play me again for their chance to take out a diamond or cross swords or even for the fun of it

23 hours 58 minutes

I play sequential games only, and therefore this ploy is pointless.

I got sick of playing freestyle games, where the play is supposed to be faster, only to have this sort of crap going on.

plus - its more like therisk that I'm used to

rank hunters

Postby wacicha on Tue Mar 21, 2006 1:21 pm

i will admit i like being LT and up but i don't do that hold thing = mostly i play sequntial games unless it is the weekend then i get in some faster turn games== and again pedro i state i'm not as good as my rank proclaims maybe but with alot of games comes the risk of alot of failure and as a higher rank i lose more points than as i do as a sargent so i do have to be a ok player to keep it near the top & I DO stay near the top with a fall now and then === see you all in the diamonds == to all have fun - play fair - good hunting
