Ok, yes quite a few cats went missing in my neighborhood when I was a kid. But, let's be real here, guns can kill fast and not make a mess with the killer. Now let 's get back to the use of deadly force, someone catches a German youth in his garage, apparently opened and the homeowner shoots before the German youth says, "hey I'm lost and need directions to get back to Grrmany". Wereas Homeowner grabs the German youth and starts beating him to a pulp, at least the German youth might have time to say he means no harm.

Guns in the hands of cowards can kill innocents fast, but using your hands or perhaps a blunt instrument and/or knife may take time and may give the suspect time to clear his name.

except one teenager shot to death,
he still was after midnight in a homeowners garage, but this still doesnt justify his death...
and the shooter...lot of questionmarks,
but if he really said to his hairdresser that he will shoot somebody,
than he does have a problem in court,

Canader has no nuclear weapons. We used to arm some planes with missiles supplied by the US but don't do that anymore.

I'm trying to teach my kids to treat fire arms with respect and use them in a safe manner. BB guns are not toys and have the same rules in our house as a regular gun. Our daughter has her own daisy air rifle. Our son has not shown enough responsibility to earn one yet, he is allowed to shoot with us and has to follow the rules. So often I have heard or read about kids finding a gun and shooting someone because they thought it was a toy, not loaded etc.

- Always assume it's loaded and ready to shoot.
- Never point them at anything you do not intent to shoot.
- Finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Point them toward the ground while carrying them.

as saxitoxin enlightened me of the dangerous life in rural areas,
i can understand why there are guns in the house for selvdefence,
in austria we do have alot of hunters, and they have shotguns in their house too,
just recently one psychic hunter in austria killed two policeman while they searched his car ( he was a wilderer-is that english?
killing animals he was not supposed to) he had a full arsenal of weapons in his house...

the problem is the gunlaws are for all, and the problem is that some in our society have not the responsibility
to own this guns, since they will use it not for defense but for some unlawfull action,
or kids taking the gun of his father and shooting around in schools ( we had this a year ago in germany too )

there is no 100 % guarantee that this will not happen again, sad but reality is, it will happen again somewhere, someday

i do not defend the homeowner who wanted to "defend" himselve and i do not defend the young student who broke into
someone elses garage,
lets say he walked into a strangers garage, since the garage was open???
i dont want to put blame on the exchange students guestfamily either
but if i would have an exchange student with 17 years, i would not let him run around after midnight...

besides having a gun in your house might make u think u are save,
but its not granted, and because u do have a gun could be more fatal at the end
i dont know guys, i have no idea how to make this world saver for all,
but giving guns to everybody cant be the solution either

Actually, giving everybody guns is a great solution. In Kennesaw, Georgia, it is mandatory for all homes to have a gun. They haven't had a single homicide in over 25 years.

I'm seeing numbers ranging anywhere from a 50% to an 80% reduction, which would put the US on par with even the most passive of European states.

I'd like to find a definitive statistic.

Because it's isolated to a group that represents less than 10% of the population, and it doesn't make sense to pass sweeping regulations which do nothing to effect that group but penalize the majority for the actions of a minority.

The gun grabbers make a big deal out of things when a white kid gets shot even though it's rare, but they don't say anything when black kids get shot even though it's much more common. They try to make it sound like the guys with AR15s for hog hunting are a problem, when in reality it's inner city minorities with 5 shot revolvers...

If they really wanted to fix gun violence in this country they would look at where the vast majority of it is coming from instead of focusing on obscure freak events that play on people's emotions.

In my experience, if there's violence of ANY kind, the reporters are all over it like vultures on a gut wagon....they do not discriminate in the least.

If you're interested, check this out from the National Shooting Sports Foundation....some interesting numbers....I like the decline in accidental shootings, but look at the percentage comparison overall. I'd be interested to see the figure included for INTENTIONAL shootings...lol (I think I used "interesting" too much!)

I think the problem with the media reporting on people of color, is they only cover gangs and sports. If you don't have close brown friends and occasionally even if you do, it causes you to think maybe all they are doing is throwing balls, shooting hoops and 9mils.

Kind of like the start of this thread where all Americans are hoping to "bag a trophy criminal" to make a nice rug out of.

Fortunately society is standing up for some groups.

But we can still lump all Americans into a prejudicial clump, perceived as morons shooting their guns every chance they get just because ammo is so cheap. Makes it sound like if you live near the border you can sit out on the balcony and listen to the gun fire day and night.

That's not what I said, is it?

The point is you don't hear a national outcry against gun violence when there's a gang shooting, but when something affects suburbia its a national incident and people rattle on for months.

The fact is gun violence in the suburbs is rare. If people really want to deal with the problem they need to look at where the problem is and what the causes are.

Gun violence in this country is largely a product of an isolated subset of the population dealing in contraband, not general ownership of a particular class of weapons.
