Oh man, Brienne > the Hound. I guess technically we haven't seen the Hound actually die but I'd be surprised if we see him again.

We don't see Mance much but I like him. Its hard to think the Wildlings are savages when they just want to be safe. Also, Stannis by being in the north is really gonna hurt his attempt in trying to take the Iron Throne, as he's probably going to use more men there than the Lannisters.

Jaime and Varys saving Tyrion. I knew Tyrion was going to kill Tywin and I actually was going to say how Tywin was actually a very honorable character until...yeah, Tyrion saw Shae.

I know why Arya wants to go to the north, to be with Jon, but if I were her I'd try to go to Riverrun.

Good episode.

Dat was a good fight. Brienne gets her assed kicked in every fight she gets in but always manages to survive and win. Poor Hound, the guy playing him is a good actor.

AOG wrote:We don't see Mance much but I like him. Its hard to think the Wildlings are savages when they just want to be safe.

Yeah, the wildlings aren't really bad guys, are they?

AOG wrote: Also, Stannis by being in the north is really gonna hurt his attempt in trying to take the Iron Throne,

I think Stannis realizes that if something wasn't done at the Wall there won't be an Iron Throne to win. He ain't stupid that's for sure. He knows what he's doing. You'll see.

AOG wrote: as he's probably going to use more men there than the Lannisters.

I'm a not following this part though. What do you mean?

AOG wrote:Jaime and Varys saving Tyrion. I knew Tyrion was going to kill Tywin

Haha! But do you think Jamie thought Tyrion was going to kill Tywin? I have to say, though, there was a serious deviation from the book here. But, well, we'll see how this plays out.

AOG wrote:and I actually was going to say how Tywin was actually a very honorable character until...yeah, Tyrion saw Shae.

Shit, Tywin is messed up in the head, about as bad as Cersi. Well, maybe not quite that bad, but the reasons why Tywin is so screwed up in his thinking isn't gotten into very much in the show. But, meh, Tywin isn't stupid, he's just been scarred from things that happened when he was growing up which affected his decisions there after.

Shae, now, she revealed her true colors didn't she?

AOG wrote:I know why Arya wants to go to the north, to be with Jon, but if I were her I'd try to go to Riverrun.

Good episode.

Yeah, well, you do know where she's going now, right?

I'm glad they moved Arya's storyline to this point. Prepare for epic-ness in next season's Arya storylines. Man, is the world going to turn for her. It's going to be awesome!

And yeah, very good episode. I think this might be the best season finale yet of any season in GoT.

Oh yeah, does anyone else find it hilarious that Tyrion killed Tywin in the episode that was aired on Father's Day?

Heh, heh.

#happyfathersday was going to be my Facebook hashtag for this episode, but then I realized I shouldn't hashtag on Facebook. Or post on Facebook.

But yeah, this was in my opinion the best episode yet. I really want it to be next season now. I had a feeling Tyrion wasn't going to die, but that last five minutes was heart-wrenching and I didn't see it coming.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Stannis is using all of the money the Iron Bank gave him and created an army and is putting them at the Wall. Now, the Lannisters, from what I'm thinking, will see Stannis going all out and may not send as many people to help defend from the WWs (white walkers) thus possibly leaving them with more armies for after the WWs are dealt with. I think.

But now that Tywin's dead the Lannisters are gonna be in chaos. Cersei is crazy and Tommen is too young.

Yeah, well, you do know where she's going now, right?

See, I always thought he was honorable in that he always attempted to do what was best for the family. OK, so he wanted Tyrion dead since forever, but at least he's honest about it and he didn't actually kill Tyrion despite ample opportunity.

I did actually like Tywin, but I love how they had him die with his pants down, literally. So poetic considering his character.

Tywin dying with his pants down is more than just poetic. Tywin's father died on the stairs of a heart attack as he was on his way to f*ck his common born mistress. It was an embarrassing death, one that Tywin was ashamed of. And then Tywin dies on the shitter. Hahaha.

Yeah, Tywin always tried to do what was best for his family. The problem is that he had the wrong idea about what was best for his family. It all started with Tywin's father, Tytos. You see Tytos was a doddering, kindly and weak man. Tywin grew up always ashamed of his father because his father was always such a pussy.

For instance, Tytos would lend money to Lords and the Lords would never bother to pay him back. The vassals of the Lannister House would ignore Tytos' orders.
His nickname was "Tytos the toothless Lion". That's how badly Tytos was viewed by everyone, including his own son Tywin.

It all came to a head when Tytos imprisoned Lord Tarbeck for being disloyal. Tarbeck's wife in turn tossed three Lannister's into her prison and threatened to have them killed if her husband wasn't returned. Tywin, who at the time was probably about 13 years old or so, told his father that he should chop Lord Tarbeck into three pieces and send the pieces back to Lady Tarbeck. Instead, Tytos released Tarbeck.
A few years later Lord Tarbeck along with the House Rayne flat out rebelled against House Lannister. This time Tywin convinced his father to allow him to quell the rebellion. So Tywin, who at the time was about 16 years old, went about quelling the rebellion by destroying the castles of both House Tarbeck and House Rayne and utterly extinguished both houses. After Tywin was done there was not a single Tarbeck or Rayne alive.
That's how brutal Tywin was. And all to repair the damage his father had done to the honor and prestige of the House Lannister.

In fact, Tywin had a song commissioned about how he put down the rebellion. I'm sure you've heard the name of the song mentioned-
"The Rains of Castamere" and the song became quite famous. After that, if any Lord got uppity with Tywin, Tywin would just send a singer to that particular lord and have the singer sing that song. That was usually enough to get the lord to see things Tywin's way....

Then of course, the death of Tywin's wife, Joanna, made him even more sullen. Tywin never laughs. Ever. Tywin explains that the reason he never laughs is because he'd heard enough laughing when everyone was laughing at his father. And it is said that Tywin never smiled again after his wife died.

These events shaped Tywin into the hard, brutal man he is (was).

To him what is "best" for his family, what he expects from his children, is to never show weakness. To never trust, to be ruthless, etc etc. He didn't care about teaching them to be decent human beings, because that's weak. Tytos, for all his flaws, was a kind man. A mortal sin as far as Tywin is concerned.

Yep, Arya is heading down the rabbit hole. Reminds me of a line from a Grateful Dead song- "What a long, strange trip it's been". Arya is heading out on a long, strange trip, and you'll have fun watching I'd wager.

I guess Tywin shouldn't have called Shae a "whore" that second time. To be fair, Tyrion gave him fair warning, IMO. Tywin just didn't heed that warning.
But, the way I see it, Tywin had it coming.

And we now know that Arya Stark is a hell of a lot smarter than Shae was. Arya could see through The Hound's pathetic attempts to get her to kill him, but Shae couldn't figure out that Tyrion said those things to her to get her on that boat and save her life. Ahh, a woman scorned, there is no fury in Hell as bad, but she wasn't smart enough to understand why Tyrion was scorning her.

I was "Damnnnnnn!" when the second Shae saw Tyrion she grabbed that paring knife and tried to stab him to death. So, I suppose Shae had it coming as well.

Very different from the books I think, didn't Shae beg for her life in the books? I don't remember her grabbing a knife and trying to kill him, but I remember him choking her to death hehe.
Quite a lot of deviation from the books going on in game of thrones right now, I suspect the fifth season will deviate even further. Except Arya's storyline, which I expect to be more or less the same as the book, the big change in her storyline came this season with her going to the bloody gate and meeting Brienne in particular, but also meeting hotpie again.

The deviation from the books with the Jamie freeing Tyrion scene blew my mind. You know what I'm talkin' bout, gillipig. I was looking forward to Tyrion spilling the beans and seeing Jamie's reaction. Oh well, I guess Jamie will have to figure it out some other way.

And yeah, Shae didn't try to stab Tyrion in the books. She tried to sweet talk him if I remember correctly.

Changes the whole situation really, in the series she tried to kill him and killing her was self defense, in the book he was so mad by her betrayal that he killed her even though she tried to beg for her life. I think what they were doing there was that they're trying very hard to keep Tyrion likeable, but what they fail to realise is that he's likeable even when he's killing Shae in cold blood, at least that's the way I felt when I read the book, I was rooting for him to kill her and was so happy when he squeezed the life out of her, the betraying bitch.

ok so my stupid friend book reader did spoil me shae and tywinn, I was wondering if he was trolling or really spoiling. he hasn't watched the episode yet, so I am going to text him that in the show jaimie frees trion and that shae fights tyrion instead of sweet talking him. asshole!!! lol

so those skeletons we see have nothing to do with white walkers right, they are just moved by some evil force? I wonder if bran will be able to wog into dragons, seems likely as I doubt the "you're gonna fly" only means he can wog through crows and such, as I guess he could already do that. regarding his wogging ito hodor... he stayed very long there, so I guess his powers have already increased a lot already.

Oh and what an epic fight between the hound and brienne.... I doubt the hound is dead. It feels like there will be a clegane fight at some point. Vs zombie mountain bigger and badder than ever.

the episode was cool, but episode 8 was still the best of the season.

But GRRM has killed off fan favorites before. Rob and Ned to name a couple and I've heard something about a cult following for Renley an Karl Drago as well.

I liked the episode but having a difficult time getting over just how much it erred from the book. The Bran scene was almost word for word but they got rid of Coldhands. I was also hoping for a surprise appearance in the final episode that did not happen.

It could've been cooler if they hadn't changed some things that really didn't needed to be changed from the books, oh well, it's an adaptation, they're free to do as they like I suppose.

I fucking hate people that complain about the show/book killing off fan favorites. That is a huge reason why in love GoT...anyone can die at any moment. The reason why a lot of shows and movies aren't suspenseful at all is because you know characters x and y are going to survive at the end.

I rewatched the Oberyn death on YouTube and some of the comments enraged me: "if you kill off another of my favorite characters I'm gonna stop watching", etc. I fucking hope those cunts stop watching because I love how unpredictable GoT is. I love Tyrion but if he died I wouldn't not watch the show. Hell, I like the Hound as much as I like Tyrion but the Hounds alleged death makes me want to watch the show more.

Read the spoiler if you want. Chances are it won't come up in the show (If it hasn't by now it doesn't appear to have any reason to going forward) but just in case:

Good rant.

I'm with you on this. Doesn't matter who dies, I'm going to keep on watching the show, reading the books. I wanna find out how it all ends. And I figure by the time it's all over, the body count is going to be pretty damn high.

I liked The Hound a lot to, he could be an asshole, but he had a lot more nobleness in him than actual knights have often times. Sure, he'll kill a cobbler's boy but he won't hide his actions behind "oaths" and other bullshit. He calls everything for what it is.
And I like how just before he starts fighting with Brienne that he admits that he is the one who is going to protect Arya. It was like a reverse Stockholm syndrome. She started as his hostage but somewhere along the line that changed.
I especially liked how his voice cracked a little bit, there at the end of his begging Arya to kill him.
Even though there was a lot of departure from the book story line between the two of them, I kinda liked how it turned out in the show.

The Hound. RIP.

She is going to Braavos to the hall of the Faceless God. Valar Morghulis.

To be fair to Tyrion killing off Shae, the part of the story line where she appeared to love him back was pretty much made up for the show.

Yeah people get upset by GoT killing off favorite characters but I really didn't completely get into GoT until Ned Stark's death. When they killed him, that was what sold me on the story line. "The abusive show that you keep watching no matter how many times it hurts you"

The condition for when the captor develops sympathy for the captive is called Lima Syndrome. I don't know. I liked the Brienne-Hound fight but it does kind of bug me that they didn't let it happen because of infection. That seems to take the possibility of infection out of the story line.

Ahh, thanks, I didn't know that. I figured there was probably a name for that phenomenon but I had no idea what it was.

I liked The Hound vs Brienne fight as well. Tv shows are about how different characters interact with each other, and so the show likes to pit different characters against each other that didn't actually meet in the book series. Early on before this season started it was rumored that Brienne would be killing off a major character that she didn't meet in the books. A lot of people theorized that it was The Hound she'd be fighting.
It appears those theories were correct in this instance. They changed the Arya/Hound story line so much from the books that this ending to that line is how it had to happen, in the show.

I love the books, and I like the show a lot. I don't mind much at all that things have been changed up. Gives a bit of surprise.

I liked the episode but having a difficult time getting over just how much it erred from the book. The Bran scene was almost word for word but they got rid of Coldhands. I was also hoping for a surprise appearance in the final episode that did not happen.

Who?

Read the spoiler if you want. Chances are it won't come up in the show (If it hasn't by now it doesn't appear to have any reason to going forward) but just in case:

So i guess the hound is totally dead.
What infection, what are you talking about strike?
How is the hound/arya storyline different in the books?

Do you really wanna know?

If so, then read the spoiler. It won't spoil anything in the series, so no worries there. But it'll tell ya what happened in the books.
