well, what i got out of the scenes from next week, it looks like the next episode they will be in washington. probably have to wait for the third installment tho' to figure out what's there. they'll all but tell us next week. it's still early, but this episode moved along pretty fluidly.
1. got noah back where he came from (last year the journey would have taken about 4-6 episodes.
2. found out the bad news about noahs family rather than making us wonder for 2-3 episodes that they were zombos. ( again last season would have ended when asian guy peeked over the fence. )
3. killed off tyrese with a quickness. thought they were going to leave us hanging again there in the end, but case closed.

i was happy with this episode, and i have a new faith about the rest of the season. hopefully that is the last time we have to hear beth blow out the pipes. walking dead is not a musical like willy wonka or cinderalla cartoon. no need for a song every five minutes. we need to be seeing either a, zombie dilemas, b, moraly twisted human dilemas c, foraging and compound building scenes.

I like the idea of them going to Washington because the series is at a point where I'm not going to be all that interested in just watching them amble around the woods much longer. It would be nice to give some clue as to the macro-story.

I bet when they get to Washington D.C., 'the government' tries to rob and kill them

They have stayed close enough to the "macro story" compared to the comic books that you only need to read them for some rough spoilers, at least in terms of overall storyline, the individual character arcs are getting quite different now in places. Personally I'm looking forward to Negan's appearance...

I watched one of the "who will die" youtube speculation videos shortly after the last episode in November and they called this - Tyreese to be killed by a zombie in the first 2 episodes of the second half of the season. Both because Tyreese was useless and becoming emotional deadweight to the actual story (though I did like the way they gave the character a bit of depth back with the always know the news/radio stuff at the end there) and because the zombies were losing some of their "danger" (Bob being the only one in recent times to die to a zombie in the field iirc and that was a submerged underwater zombie...)

Thought they went a bit far with the bringing back dead people thing. The Terminus guy and Lizzie and Mika would have been enough imo (Terminus guy could have done the zombie morph and Lizzie and Mika could have done a lot of the spirit of the Bob lines with some clever rewriting - Beth and the Guv'nor were redundant overkill)

Ugh, this show keeps getting worse and worse. I pretty much only watch it now because I've already invested all the time to watch it so far, I feel like I'd be giving up if I just quit watching it.

Also, I'm very glad Beth died too. Hopefully they all die. That would be awesome.

My theory is that they all eventually die. I suspect that's how the comics will end (if they haven't ended already). It would be interesting to have a television show end on such a bad note.

This episode could probably have been trimmed to 90 seconds or so in length, but it looks like things will improve with a new story arc.

I don't ever watch The Talking Dead because I torrent TWD, but I watched it tonight. That guy who plays The Penguin in Gotham kept undressing Chris Hardwick with his eyes through the entire show. I felt like I was sitting between Phatscotty and Joseph Gordon Levitt on a long plane flight. Very uncomfortable.

I think there's very deliberately a slow episode or two in almost every season now. Think about it, we're a fair long time from the apocalypse itself and the groups of survivors that there are (assuming nobody is getting much of a wide ranging society back together anywhere just yet) are widely spread and probably aren't bumping into each other too often any more, especially with the danger that other groups pose. Life for the survivors is slow and hard work and ultimately 90% or more of it is going to be boring as f*ck. It's not going to be all day every day zombie splatter fest. I wouldn't want every episode to be like this one, but I fully understand these kinds of episodes being thrown in there, and the chance it gives them to do a little bit of proper character development of the kind that realistically would be happening in that kind of world is worth a slow one every ten episodes or so.

Ths isnt like The Wire or Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad where the world itself gives everything a real sense of urgency to every move the protagonists make, and I think if every episode was like the escape from Terminus one or the zombie horde over-running the farm we'd be saying it's not realistic that anyone is surviving at all. Plus there is real danger in a world gone to shit from the really basic things like no drinking water, and that's not a danger that lends itself to fast paced action...

it took all of season 4 to leave the jail and find terminus. then we still had to wait all summer to figure out what terminus was all about.

i think season 4 was as bad as the last episode.

The main problem I had with season 4 wasn't so much the pace, though I agree it could have been a bit faster without ruining the storyline, it was the fact the prison gets buggered up and suddenly as the group scatters in random directions they all start finding signs nobody had found before on any of their supply runs and missions to Woodbury and whatnot for Terminus. Surely they would have spotted these signs, or even the people putting the signs up, before that point... They were in that prison for long enough to get to know the neighbourhood pretty well...

Why didn't they just stay in Atlanta? During their field trip they discovered there were plenty of abandoned buildings, any of which are more secure than a plywood church or, worse, just wandering down a deserted country road.

Ode to Gotham City's Detective Blake

Blake seems to have made his choice to live selflessly long ago, and desires to do so as a supporter of Batman. Being inspired by the actions of Batman, he’s made the seemingly best choice to pursue a career in law enforcement. Yet, he seems to struggle with how to follow the example set by Batman within the confines of this world.

He discovers that pursuing the task he knows to be right, and following the rules within his profession, isn’t as simple as expected. He has grown up with a view on the law and the structures that support it to be absolute. The ideal law that he envisions was created to protect people and bring justice. Orders are given to him by commanding officers that fly in the face of the moral convictions he knows to be true, yet he obeys them anyway. Later on in the film, he discovers actions taken by Commissioner James Gordon and Batman that turn an act of law that Gotham has lived by for the past 8 years on its head.

In response to this, Jim Gordon delivers a line: ā€œThere’s a point, far out there when the structures fail you, and the rules and laws aren’t meant for peace and justice anymore, they’re shackles letting the bad guy get ahead. One day… you may face such a moment of crisis. And in that moment, I hope you have a friend like I did, to plunge their hands into the filth so that you can keep yours clean!ā€ Blake is appalled by this news, and responds by saying ā€œyour hands look plenty dirty to me, Commissionerā€.

What Blake fails to realize is the entire reason Batman came into being in the first place. In Batman Begins, Batman came to Gotham because the officials in charge of carrying out justice and enforcing the law had become corrupt, corrupting the law itself. Batman came to do what nobody else could, and set a new example of justice and hope in a city that had neither. In The Dark Knight, Batman takes on the brunt of someone else’s, so that justice can continue in Gotham. Those actions don’t make sense to Blake. That isn’t how the world works, and that’s the point. Someone had to go beyond the laws of this world, otherwise we would all be found guilty.

Blake finds himself becoming discouraged by the rules he’s being asked to live by. Perhaps he could just tough it out and do the best he could within those confinements, eventually coming out the other end as a disillusioned and disheartened cop, as we see Jim Gordon when he’s introduced in Batman Begins. There’s also the chance he could adapt to the rules and rise up within the ranks, earning the respect of the world by playing by its principles, and becoming a part of it. Knowing the destination that those roads would take him, and the desire to influence Gotham without becoming a part of it, Blake chooses a completely different route and quits the police force. When Commissioner Gordon attempts to get him to stay on, he says ā€œYou were right, about the structures becoming shacklesā€ . '

Everybody keeps fucking complaining about this series, why do you even watch it?

I stopped in season 2 after a minor cerebral stroke and realized I'd rather jerk off to Oprah than watch this thing again.

I guess? I don't know, I didn't pay attention to it. I never did care for her music being in the show.

It isn't that much better, but it is better with the guitar. (BTW, did Noah really kill his twin brother with a model jet plane he pulled from the ceiling?)

I've seen people say that a coupla times. Noah had twin brothers who were both younger than him, and yes he did kill one of those twins with a model airplane through the eye. The other one was decomposing quietly on the bed in that room.

Wait, so no one trusted these guys until they found out they were gay lovers and then it was like "let's go to Alexandria!"

Overall, though, this was a good episode.

I suspected the 1st guy was gay after a few convos with co-workers, and I knew it for a fact the second I saw the second guy. I already knew to look away before the kiss even happened. I got asked what was up with that, I said if I wanted to see 2 men making out, I'd ambush myself with the take me to church video or hang out at the gay 90's more (a niche club in Minneaplois)

We discussed a bit about what the writers were thinking about inserting that into the show. While I admitted I have no idea if the gay guys were in the comic/graphic novel (are they?) I opined the writers mightv'e decided it was the right time for something like this, and anyone who didn't like it would probably just root for them to die next (I'm not one of those), and since they likely wouldn't have to wait long to see that, it was probably agreed upon as a win-win.

Many thought the gay guys should've been in Season 1...but that would have taken away from the infidelity of Laurie.

Anyway, I was just starting to get my 70 year old dad interested in The Walking Dead. When the gay guys sucked face, he got up and walked out of the room mumbling.

Overall very good episode in my book. Plenty of action and seeing the group encounter someone that makes them seem like the bad guys was a nice turnaround (not often you end up rooting for the stranger in this series). Loved the night-time top down camera angle as they drove through the herd...

As for the gay kiss, I'm willing to be if we could find newspaper letters sections from the days after the Uhuru/Kirk Star Trek first inter-racial kiss we could find many of the same sorts of comments, and it's only surprising in that this is far from the first and yet still the comments come...
