Yeah, anyone who thinks HoC makes Democrats look good just isn't paying attention.

Sometimes Republicans are the heroes. I just watched an interesting documentary about an obscure Republican politician:

yup; but I don't think it makes democrats look bad, it makes politicians look bad. frank underwood could be any party you want, the only thing he runs after is power, whatever the means.

Well, sure, it is after all an American rip off of a successful British drama series.

yes I know, from the late 70s or early 80s, but that original one was only 1 season long.
Actually frank underwood is a bit likeable in season 1, and he gets more and more horrible. I haven't seen the original british one... is it close to the american one's 1st season?

I never watched the original House of Cards ... though didn't it only produce like 4 episodes?

I did watch every episode of The Thick of It, though, and I liked it loads. I also like VEEP, too, though. Even though it's based on The Thick of It, it's an extremely loose connection and stands on its own. I thought they did a good job of not trying to replicate Peter Capaldi's character.

WHA-?! He was awful in season 1 ... he went around shoving people onto train tracks and staging suicides! I thought he became a lot more human in season 3, though still flawed. Maybe it was just because Claire wasn't as much of an ice queen in season 3, though.

Season 2 he also had human moments, like when he went to the "Sentinel" (The Citadel). Then there was the weird part where he had a MMF with Claire and the Secret Service agent, which came out of nowhere and was very uncomfortable to watch.

I never heard of the thick of it. any good?
I watch VEEP and I love it, never really heard of anybody else watching it. Pretty good angle.

HoC: nope, he throws zoe under the train on the first episode of the season 2 if I remember well; I forgot the name of the alcoholic guy whose suicide he stages, but pretty sure it was season 2 too. Honestly, for me he is cold and machiavelical in season 1, but not this bad. He becomes pure evil at the start of the season 2.
Love the fist scene of the season 3 when he "honours" his father's grave too by the way!

Oh you're right! I thought that was Season 1 for some reason.

My favorite line from Veep was when Gary said "he's a triathlete."

yeah like most Garies, Gary is awesome!

regarding HOC: wonder if underwood becomes more evil in season 2 because it's netflix scenarists in freestlye mode after somewhat following a british script for season 1.
I don't know what to think... if they should've sticked to the borderline season 1 character or if they did well to depict such a limitless evil character that makes you uncomfortable but that you somewhat still root for at the start of the season 2.

I think it makes all the politicians look bad regardless of party. HoC simply makes Republicans look worse, which ends up making Democrats look better, but by no means 'good'

the republicans are the antagonists but it doesn't mean they look worse. The only guys that reach underwood's standards are Tusk from season 2 and the putinish character from season 3

The Thick of It is brilliant. There's also a movie, In the Loop, which is based on the series.

Both are practically master classes on how to swear.

You should consider a more epic answer, perhaps with more 90's cheesiness.

Oh some on, it has a Korean rip-off of Daniel Day-Lewis. It's like my brief trip to South Korea when I went to a Korean-Irish bar called "O'Kims". The Guinness was bad, and expensive.
