I agree that our standards are a bit mixed up. It's ok to show people being murdered, tortured and mutilated on TV, but damn it we need to blur out that nipple!

After recent successes of Syrian and Russian forces it seems that the end of Islamic State is much closer then anyone was expecting...

As a result Turks are preparing for illegal agression of parts of northern Syria and Americans are preparing for aerial operations from Syrian territory.

I hope things will not let out of control in the process.

A GlobalPost investigation has revealed that, while the U.S. is finger-wagging at Russia over civilian deaths, America is actually busy butchering more civilians in Syria and Iraq than it acknowledges -

According to the US Department of Defense: “No other military on Earth takes the concerns over collateral damage and civilian casualties more seriously than we do.” Yet our investigation found there has been no honest official estimate of how many civilians the United States has killed in Iraq and Syria. Even if civilian casualties are an inevitable part of war, the American public is being fed the comforting illusion that this war can be fought without shedding much innocent blood.

What may be one of the worst tragedies of the campaign against the Islamic State is said to have taken place on another part of Syria’s Hasaka front in December. Al Khan is a tiny village. Most of the people have fled to Lebanon or Turkey. Perhaps a hundred stayed behind. They say the village was hit by rockets and strafed in the early hours of Dec. 7, killing some 47 civilians, half of them children.

“It was the Americans. For the past year-and-a-half, the only aircraft that fly over our area have been American.”

The US military emphatically denied that they bombed al Khan on Dec. 7, though a spokesman said there were airstrikes in the area of al Hawl, a small town a few miles away. But when the spokesman showed us a map marking the location of the airstrike, it was in the same area where a group of local activists had told us al Khan was located. This was where the locals said the rocket attack had taken place. Confusion over place names happens often enough for the US military to plausibly deny responsibility for civilian casualties and to avoid launching a full investigation.

What's bad, saxi, is a recent article in Reuters.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-midea ... SKCN0VG0KA

In particular, this quote from the article-
article wrote:Russian and Syrian forces intensified their campaign on rebel-held areas around Aleppo that are still home to around 350,000 people and aid workers have said the city - Syria's largest before the war - could soon fall.

The error is blatant, but before I go into it a little backstory. Kerry met with some aid workers at the recent Syrian donors conference and he told them, I quote- "What do you want me to do? Go to war with Russia??!!"
Kerry has been trying to get a cease fire going, something Russia and Iran seem to be willing to do. The rebel opposition on the other hand rejects any negotiations. Kerry said this about why he can't get the fighting stopped- "Don’t blame me – go and blame your opposition".

Now, about the error in that quote. Note how the quote says Aleppo is going to "fall". In the context that this word is being used means that the city is about to be taken over by the enemy. Hence, "the fall of Saigon" back in the Nam era and so forth and so on. As if the Russians and the Iranians are the enemy. The more truthful view is that Aleppo has already fallen, quite a while ago, to ISIS and Islamists. The Russians, Syrian armed forces and the Iranians are actually about to liberate Aleppo.

Now people can cry about Assad all they want, and he gets little sympathy from me. However, if you were to ask the average Syrian citizen who happen to be stuck in Aleppo and ask them which they prefer, rule under Assad pre-2009 (a secular government that actually protected religious freedom) or the current Islamic rule that Aleppo has labored under for quite a while now (distinctly non secular, religious extremist murders who enjoy beheading, enslaving and raping people).

The US has thrown in the towel now, though. The US has finally accepted that there is only one of two ways out now. Either go to war with Russia and Iran or abandon the idea of regime change in Syria. Thankfully it appears that the US has chosen the latter. At least according to MEE-
http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/oppos ... 1808021537
Assad has been assured that the US no longer wants him removed. Kerry only asked that Assad stop using barrel bombs so he can "sell it to the American people". Ha! I'm not really sure what the difference between using a barrel bomb or dropping a missile or drone striking people is any different, but whatever. The USG is trying to figure a way to explain this change of policy to the American people and still somehow save face.

Anyway, I find it telling how Reuters put it, that Aleppo is about to "fall" when anyone with any common sense knows that Aleppo fell a long time ago to people so brutal it makes Assad look like a boy scout.

Now if only Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia could get on board the civil war in Syria could actually come to an end.

Regime change in the U.S. is coming in 11 months. Kerry doesn't need to worry about how to sell it to the American people. He only needs to worry about how to prolong it for 11 months so it becomes the next administration's problem.

Things are getting in good direction in Syria. After the recent ceasefire agreement Russians were not attacking but Russian airgroup at Hmeimim base receive considerable reinforcements.
Now the Russian airgroup consists of more than two times more airplanes than 3 months ago.

Total of 86 groups are participating in the ceasefire. Its quite solid number gathered from Russia and US. For now it is 2 weeks only, but if they manage to refrain them selves from clashes for 2 weeks, they can do it 1 extra month... and the ball will start rolling towards peace for the groups that want peace.
Tho this is only in theory, regardless if it is successful or not its better then not trying.

So, the plot certainly thickened today.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/17/world/middleeast/syria-assad-obama-airstrikes-diplomats-memo.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=a-lede-package-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

More than 50 State Department diplomats have signed an internal memo sharply critical of the Obama administration’s policy in Syria, urging the United States to carry out military strikes against the government of President Bashar al-Assad to stop its persistent violations of a cease-fire in the country’s five-year-old civil war.

The memo, a draft of which was provided to The New York Times by a State Department official, says American policy has been “overwhelmed” by the unrelenting violence in Syria. It calls for “a judicious use of stand-off and air weapons, which would undergird and drive a more focused and hard-nosed U.S.-led diplomatic process.”

Such a step would represent a radical shift in the administration’s approach to the civil war in Syria, and there is little evidence that President Obama has plans to change course. Mr. Obama has emphasized the military campaign against the Islamic State over efforts to dislodge Mr. Assad. Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, led by Secretary of State John Kerry, have all but collapsed.

But the memo, filed in the State Department’s “dissent channel,” underscores the deep rifts and lingering frustration within the administration over how to deal with a war that has killed more than 400,000 people.

The State Department set up the channel during the Vietnam War as a way for employees who had disagreements with policies to register their protest with the secretary of state and other top officials, without fear of reprisal. While dissent cables are not that unusual, the number of signatures on this document, 51, is extremely large, if not unprecedented.

The names on the memo are almost all midlevel officials — many of them career diplomats — who have been involved in the administration’s Syria policy over the last five years, at home or abroad. They range from a Syria desk officer in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs to a former deputy to the American ambassador in Damascus.

The time of the TOTAL CAPITULATION of Turkey has arrived much sooner then anyone anticipated. The Butcher from Bosporus, Erdogan issued a letter of regret to the Kremlin over the incident with the downing of the Russian Su-24.
I presume EU's capitulation is also around the corner.
