The EU agrees: separatism must not be tolerated

Postby mrswdk on Sat Sep 30, 2017 7:58 am

The Spanish government, with tacit support from the other 27 EU Member States, has moved swiftly to suppress disobedient and destabilizing separatists.

Spain’s prime minister has called on Catalan separatist leaders to end their “escalation” as several thousand people took to the streets of Barcelona to protest at Madrid’s attempts to stop a banned referendum on independence.

Spanish Guardia Civil officers raided a dozen Catalan regional government offices and arrested 14 senior officials on Wednesday as part of an operation to stop the referendum from taking place on 1 October.

The message from Europe’s leaders is clear: ‘we support governments who rightly clamp down on individuals who seek to undermine national stability and wellbeing’.

Typical mrswdk lying out of his ass again. The EU is not taking any stance at all, nor did your article mention any of the sort.

In Brussels, the showdown between the Spanish and Catalan governments is being followed "with great, great concern," a top EU diplomat said on Thursday.

But the official said the situation was considered "a domestic issue of Spain", and that the EU "trusts in the democracy."

"If that is not a taboo, it looks like it very much," a source admitted to EUobserver.

"All member states are embarrassed - we don't want to get involved," he said, noting that no one wanted to appear as if to be acting against a fellow member state.

...A second EU source told EUobserver that the commission doesn't want to be the first institution to take a position, while member states are still silent, and that it does not consider itself to have a role in initiating mediation or internal dialogue.

So the EU supports China's enslavement of the Hong Kong government. I think I'm going to uninvite Peteris Ustubs to my Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for the hot tip, mrswdk. Nobody who supports China is welcome at my Thanksgiving dinner because the theme this year is "be thankful you're not Chinese". Instead of a turkey, we're doing Peking duck.

I said the other 27 Member States i.e. all the constituent members of the EU.

Whenever something happens that they don’t like (e.g. Trump winning) they’re always more than happy to rant in their national press about it. The fact no one has piped up about Spain shows that none of them care about it. Because they have no problem with it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the Catalans. They should be allowed to declare independence if they wish for it. However I also understand the position the EU and other member states are in. Meddling with internal national issues is always a touchy subject. Especially now that Macron is preoccupied gathering support for supranational reforms and Merkel still needs to conclude coalition negotiations.

But yeah, the EU should at the very least mediate as the Catalans ask. The problem is not that the EU is against democracy and wishes to set up totalitarian régimes, on the contrary, there's simply a lack of 'cojones'.

I bet Puerto Rico is wishing they were still part of Spain ... or maybe not.

761 unarmed Catalan civilians hospitalized today by masked EU Storm Troopers disrupting the election, democracy.

We need Russian peacekeepers on the ground, and a no fly zone over Spain, now.

So will the Spanish Civil War:
- make a good Brexit deal more likely?
- make a bad Brexit deal more likely?
- make a UK-Spain war over Gibraltar more likely?
- make a UK-Spain war over Gibraltar less likely?

I think that we can all agree that a war over Gibraltar would result in only one outcome- a Planet of the Apes, where humans are reduced to a bickering second class debating whether Barbary Apes are monkeys or not. (I'm pro-monkey).

The votes are in. Catalonia voted 89% in favor of independence. Within 48hours the regional government should be declaring independence, as they promised they would based on the voting.

It's funny, for all the crackdown, Spain was only able to shut down 92 voting stations. There were well over 2,200 voting stations in total, so Spain was only able to shut down about 4% or so of the voting. They way they treated people, clubbing and beating people who weren't rioting or doing anything at all violent but were merely voting, certainly swayed undecided voters to vote for independence.

I think Catalans have had just about enough of Spain, I can't say I blame them very much at all. Spain has shown that Orwell was right, if you want a picture of the future just imagine a boot stomping a human face.

The Eurocrats are already yelling "Russian influence!" That line's been so overplayed it's now just a funny meme.

So, 89% of the people who voted in the illegal voting stations for Catalonian independence voted for Catalan independence?

I am shocked.

Masked Spanish-EU Terror Troops storm a polling place earlier today ...

Elsewhere, when the EU Terror Troops arrived to stop democracy, someone called the Fire Department, who showed up to protect democracy from the EU -

Now, people in the newly independent Republic of Catalonia have started expelling the Spanish occupation forces - Spanish-EU Terror Troops are being forced to retreat and flee ...

On the other hand, there was a mere 43% turn-out(as the spanish government did succeed in stealing about 700.000 ballots) and the Catalan prime minister has already expressed he prefers not to immediately declare independence. He knows full well that without acknowledgement from the rest of the world, especially the rest of the continent, his country/region will fall to disrepair. FYI, american president Donald Trump has sided with Madrid:

President Trump said on Monday that he supports the idea of a unified Spain, which seemed to contradict previously stated United States policy that the planned vote on Sunday was a domestic issue.

“Speaking for myself, I would like to see Spain continue to be united,” Mr. Trump said at a White House news conference with Mr. Rajoy following a meeting of the two leaders.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/26/world/europe/spain-catalonia-referendum.html

Multiple prominent european politicians have already expressed concerns over police violence during the referendum; including Angela Merkel and Guy Verhofstadt.

Funnily enough that’s the exact same percentage of Europeans who voted for the current European Parliament:
