The Spiral started the same year Trash Can closed and shortly before the Classic Cities replaced Classic Shapes and Classic Art. We could easily blame those two factors for the decline.

I could also liken those numbers to human trafficking, or auto accidents, or lung cancer from too many cigs(llama please just quit for us).

My point being, that's called an opinion but if we take a step outside, there are a lot more cool things to do with technology then there was when CC was boomin' like Neman.

There should be a lightbulb in the attick, we just have to find that blasted switch. I know it's around here somewhere Ahh! SPIDERS!!

I'm sorry you're having a bad day, xroads. I miss the days when things were easier and if it's not too soon I'd like to put my hand on your knee. There that's not so bad is it? Nice warm hand like mine.

Listen, right now, we have to sit this out politely and let the adults talk this through.

So come on, cheer up, let me buy you a speed game.

Ah speed games, some of my favorite.

Too bad they sit forever without getting filled anymore.

I remember when speeders were rabid, and there were always 30-40 waiting speed games.

And I am sad. I have played over 22,000 games. I have watched my favorite website slowly start to die, with nothing being done to keep it alive.

So ya, I am a little pissy when something I have enjoyed so much for so long wont be around for long.

After 8 years on the site, you spent your first venture into OT in 2015:

I think you all are missing the number #1 thought around all this, yeah like KH said the vilain are out there disregard if we like it or not, that how internet is and will be as long as it exist, no discussion about it, the main point is how do we want to build/rebuild the Community? I like the image xroads layed saying that Forum should

This is a gaming site, not a forum community site. The forums should support the games not vice versa. How many people do you think have left CC because excessive rudeness in forums, game chat, live chat, etc?

We know there other factors but let's just work with what we know...My thoughts are kind of different that most of you (except who did spent time entertaining the Community, like DY did for instance), when you are taking a sinking boat and you are working (for FREE, but you like it anyway) more time than real life "authorize" you, because you want this area of the site (Tournaments, which I think we are in the page it is the backbone of this site) to be more popular, then after assessing your place you are trying to understand where the bleeding occurs...of course not all blame goes to only one side however I have serious doubt we have to tolerate such behavior that sometime are way beyond the borderline and not appropriate into a gaming site that has for primarly function and reason to be alive - gaming!

Does CC really needs topics/posts showing a dog killing a cat, does it need borderline nudity pictures? Does it need racism (yeah I know this subject has been put back on the "no-no" list) what about bigotry that are about historical event which killed thousands of peoples? Is this really what you all think will gather members who will subsequently getting Premium? If yes then more members than I thought are just sick and certainly not the one who have what this site needs to grow...

Guys, no one seems as well to think about under age members, there is for sure parents/uncle/friends who think it would be a cool think to check and thinking having family member to play against in a friendly spirit is maybe a fun things to do...well tell me how a parent/uncle/friend will do that knowing there is chance their kids to be unlucky to see all this crap we are seeing in the Forum? There is also adults who perhaps have a higher degree in their mind thinking this is not great and won't invest in it.

Is this really you all vision of what a gaming site needs to grow? I can tell you this only by looking the time of the posting that those few members who are actively posting crap have no intention to help the site to grow, they probably barely have time to play game...or if engaged in a game already they are simply missing a round in favor of posting crap...Is this what you think will help CC to grow?

I know this is more than just my 2 cents...but I'm reading posts that I think goes to the wrong way in regards what is all about...

I have noticed the players who are obsessed with forums and chat, do not play much, and when they do they are not very good.

We are a gaming site. Gaming should be the priority. Players not gabbers should be the focus.

It's fine to say that, but you are ignoring the vast history that the forum and the forum community bring to this site. The forum used to be so vibrant that people could get together and organize things like tournaments and clan wars. Remember both of those things started from the bottom-up, from people in the forum, not as top-down features. Eventually they were added to be site features. I would even argue that one of the factors that lead to the decline was the over-bureaucracy that came out of the site support of clans and tournaments. We went from a mod team of 5 (one guy in Maps, one guy in Tournaments, two chat mods and a forum mod) to thousands of roles that just didn't need to be there almost overnight. This led to burnout at the top, and it also led people to expect events to come FROM the top, when originally things grew FROM the forum. Once people expected the mods to do things, there was nothing left in the forum to do except troll the mods.

Over-moderation killed the forum - that is undeniable - unfortunately it was irreversible. The forum would be the only thing that could save this site, since there are far better games out there. We had one of the best communities though. I still remember being in the major Olympics tournament with Mad on Team NA. He didn't care about the racism on the forum then, so I'm not sure why he does now.

The forums and chat should be gaming driven. Not 90% off topic.

You are missing my point that I don't care about RISK anymore. I'm only playing because KH keeps forcing me to by buying me premium.

People are welcome to talk about maps or tournaments or clans or whatever in those other forums. When those forums were vibrant nobody cared about OT. Now that this is the only vibrant part of the site left, you have to come here and suck the life out of it.

All I see is a bunch of whiners wondering why the Trash Can gets more posts than all the other fora combined. It's a big hissy fit: "those guys are having fun, and we're not". Relax a little. Let's spend our last few hours on this sinking ship drinking wine, joking about the old days and singing sea shanties.

I agree and I never said Forum should be remove, we need it and that is a fact.

How do you know I din't care about racism - this is a wrong statement - For the rest of the paragraph its first because I wasn't part of the CC Team, then becoming a Mods and later a Head of the tournament group open me some other challenge and I think we have work to do to stop what we are not needing in those Forums and open the door to something more moderated and friendly - I don't recall seeing what Trash Can is offering back in the day, I do recall moderation was different.

This is a board game on a digital platform. How often do you have a game night in your own household?
You know, gather the family together, break out the Monopoly, Risk, Life or whatever board game ya'll like to play, and play it. There used to be a time when families would have weekly game nights. Once a week they'd all gather around the kitchen table or whatever and play.

That was a long time ago. I'm sure there are still people and families that have game nights, but with today's technology, today's choices, such things take a back seat to the old ways. I bet some people like to play Risk on this site out of nostalgia from their younger years, of happier times with the family to play some game.

Nowadays we have so many different choice of multiplayer games and there is only so much time each individual has. The Trash Can hasn't led to the decline of the site, progress has. The OT forum hasn't led to the decline, hell the forums are just a place where different kinds of games are played, basically trolling which is a game unto itself for some of the shlubs here.
To someone like a Fake Bern, it's more entertaining for him to troll and engage in general fuckery than to play games of Risk, and that's all right. They aren't mutually exclusive.

But it isn't their fault that people don't play board games anymore in general. It doesn't even matter if those board games are converted into a digital board and played on a computer. It's infantile in respect the how far gaming tech has progressed. I don't mean this in a bad way, it just is what it is. Playing board games is like taking a trip down nostalgia lane, and people get bored with board games, just like they get bored with lots of things in life and move on to find better games, other ways to spend their time.

It's sad in a way, but it's also the brutal nature of how life goes. This site is just a quaint reproduction of an old and dying tradition that people just don't do anymore like they used to.
That's the brutal truth. And I like Risk, it was always a good board game. You'll always have the hard core diehards, but in the end, that's all you'll have. And there aren't that many of them if you haven't noticed, because there are so many other things in life to be diehard about.

Nowadays people have powerful gaming computers such that using them to play Risk on CC is akin to using a Maserati to deliver pizza. You can do it of course, but it's not the best use of the machine's capabilities so the user is going to gravitate to more advanced games, more visually engaging games and multiplayer experiences.

It just is what it is.

I am not 100% in agreement.

Did it contribute, yes. Would a CC app help? Certainly.

I can play fine on my phone when I dont have the user interface on, but not at all with it on.
