Human Hand map (aka Palmistry)

I have an idea for a new map. It is the 'Human Hand' map. Certain regions of the hand could be continents, and the little cracks separating segments could be the territories. There could also be a direct link from each fingertip to its neighbours. Eg. first finger tip can attack second fingertip, second tip can attack first and third, etc. Controlling an entire finger is +2 armies. There could also be another 2-3 continents on the palm of the hand.

This has some possibilities

This could be a great map if done properly. Personally I prefer the design with all the different regions color coded instead of flesh colored or 6 shades of brown (I'm looking at you middle east!!! )
You don't have an income like mine, plus you've never even ridden in my amazing rocket car... Maybe if I get bored I'll bench press it for you.

Yeah, that about sums this map up as it is right now.

However, it could be really cool if maybe the hand was magical or something, and it was sprouting magic from the fingertips to connect some of the fingers.

Okay, that was lame. But seriously, you put a lot of effort into this as I can tell, and I'd hate to see it get thrown by the wayside because of the Australia factor. Is there something innovative you can do with the fingers to get them less one-way-ish? Maybe make them cross over each other.

I mean, c'mon! I just brought the idea to the table less than 72 hours ago. Of course it's got some kinks to work out. I was expecting comments like this, and I expect a lot more. I do appreciate all of the feedback - both negative and positive. The negative will keep me down to earth and realistic, and the positive will motivate me to keep on truckin'.
Thanks for the 'Australia' comment. Made me chuckle a little. We could make the pinky and thumb at +1, and the other fingers at +2, +2 and +3. The palm might hold a mighty +4 and +5 somewhere in there. How's that?

Well, if they're still one-ways, then you still wind up with the same problem. I still say you should make some of the fingers cross to make it more interesting. Maybe throw in a ring or some-odd.

Just show us a draft so that we can see how much potential it actually has.

Thanks for your input. I think perhaps you did not read, or did not understand, the first post. I have already made the fingertips joining. Please re-read the first message, or re-read the message I wrote two posts above this one.

Actually, I'm going to be working on it for a little while before I post a sample. Problem is, I don't have The GIMP installed on this laptop. I've been working on some web design on the side -- its been eating up most of my time. I'll see what I can do. In the mean time, how many countries would you say this Human Hand map could hold? 24 or so?

You said "could," not "is." Forgive my clarification.

Maybe a better idea would be to see which fingertips can actually touch each other. So the thumb would be connected to all but apart from that the fingers would only connect to their direct "neighbours", maybe also a connection between the index finger and the ring finger (I can do that!).

Otherwise I feel their will be too many connections between the fingertip continents.

I wholeheartedly endorse this idea. It has more flavor and is more interesting to gameplay than just having the tips touch each other.
