It takes pretty much a whole day but 'the road to hana' is my favorite thing to do on maui.

I think that story was in Breakfast of Champions, but it's been a really long time since I read it.

So what? minor point. ralph and jimb tries to make another mountain out of a molehill of minutia.

And you were wrong AGAIN, ralph. Admit it, you know little about Western culture. You were wrong about much, including Ireland, and now Hawaii.

I keep hearing about the road to Hana, but I was only there like five days or so.

I eat macadamias whenever I find them.

They're not often available in Canada except in specialty candy shops and at outrageous prices.

I love macadamias as well, but they have a high oil content and oil in nuts often goes rancid when they sit on store shelves too long (sadly they often stay there until they are sold because people don't think nuts go bad). It's about 3-5 months at room temp for macs, and due to the high price and low turnover this is the main reason they aren't stock regularly in grocers out your way.

I use them alot making poke, and sometimes cookies.

In hawaii they use kukui nuts (inamona but it's just crushed kukui nuts), but they are impossible to find on the mainland... so macs are the next closest. Doesn't add a ton to flavor but adds a bit of texture I really enjoy (and macs have great mono-unsaturated fat!)

Cool. I mostly just dig it straight, sashimi / maguro style.

Love a classic poke; son loves experimenting.

My fave dining on the isle is going to the little total local markets that will have an entire deli / cold case of various fresh pokes, snacks, seafood. So much bizarre shit for haoles  Do that several times a week...love it.

Found a pic from last ? trip...
