Roman Empire Map [Abandoned]

Postby seamusmacdeath on Wed Mar 15, 2006 6:43 pm

Hey All,
Here's a Roman Empire map I've been working on for about a week or so. It includes all of the empire plus tribute states and warring states from about 117 CE. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks to Rob (spiegelprime) and Andy (GrimlicMacDeath) for their advice and help. Of course I will resize when all the alterations are done.

the Balkans and Africa are the first two things that need changing. Africa has way too many boarded to defend for the amount of troop bonuses it gets. i also think that Balkans will be too hard to hold, if need be i suggest taking out some connections all over, i mean the map doesn't have to be geographically accurate.

Thanks for the input. The main point of Africa having so many borders is that I think we need a way to more easily move about the map. This way, I can get from Iberia to the Near eastby going through Africa as opposed to the northern continents (which will most likely be heavily fortified). Plus, I thinnk the reinforcements gained from holding Africa are substantial enough.

Regarding the Balkans, I suppose I could remove the connection between Greece and Galatia, or between Sicily and Leptis...what does everyone else think?

I think that the map is definetly playable but for lack to make it an official conquer club map it needs to look a little more professional. Perhaps either a change of color or make it look like it has texture.

Your map is much more balanced than classic or others already avaliable. Your country dispersion is 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, and the dipersion of classic (only for example) is 12, 9, 7, 6, 4, 4. Its good something new, I only dont know if its your intention.

I think you need change some bonus. See, Anatolia have 7 armies bonus, and 6 border countries. Ok, but take Assiria and borders will greatly decrease. Then, its obvious attack Balkans, and soon you can have 9 bonus armies with only 2 borders. Its much more difficult hold Africa, and the bonus for Africa is 6. Expand from Iberia is also much more difficult than expand from Anatolia. I believe the greatest bonus should be of a gigantic continent (11 - 12 countries) with more routes. Anatolia is linked only to 2 other continents. Italia (with some countries added) can be that continent, because its in a good central position. If you dont think how change the borders of continents, dont do it, only divide some countries in 2, fuse some others...

Regarding the Balkans, I suppose I could remove the connection between Greece and Galatia, or between Sicily and Leptis...what does everyone else think?

Yeah, I think you should remove this connections, and Greece - Cyrene too. Maybe add between Sardinia and Carthage.

These are my ideas, Im doing a constructive criticism. I dont need other people angry with me because of them.

um, actually, no. Balkans have 4 (of 6 total territories), Anatolia has 6 (of 8 total territories).

For example, as much as I like the Asia map that is on the site, it is incredibly easy to hold Oceania, Japan, and India. And the same can be said for Oceania in Classic. For those maps a win or loss is heavily determined by placement at the begining of the game. With my map, it is much more difficult to get that initial continent and hold it, so it comes down more to strategy and luck of the dice.

But marv makes some good points. I will have to take out some of the connections, but I wanted a map that is difficult to control. That being said, this might be too hard, and I don't want it to be impossible.

As for the comment about the look of the map, I will note mine is similar to, if not better looking than, spiegelprime's Middle East map (don't get me wrong, I really, really like Rob's map and besides, he is a sexy dood...). But I'll be sure to dress up any version that garners approval from Lack.

Keep it coming,
Mike

6 borders is too hard to hold. So is 4, with a 3 bonus. Neither in the Asia map nor the Classic are there continents with 6 borders.

Right, but if you take Armenia, suddenly there are only 3 borders...but yeah, i'm going to have to fix one or two countries in Anatolia since there is so much dissent over it. perhaps i'll make it so Cyprus does not connect to the Near East at all...

I'm not saying you copied your map or your map is not as good, I'm just wondering if its good to have 2 maps that are so similar.

Well this is a Rome esque map, so some historical flavor can explain the point allocations. I think it's a good representation and only have one question. Are Genua and Narbonensis connected?

so i wanted to point out that the bonus' are not really ideal for the map, and u need to shut off some borders so there isnt as big a range of attacking from everywhere
