It's not just about what's happened since October 7th. Israel have behaved appallingly since the 1960s with settlement of the west bank and other incursions; the PLO, Hamas and Hez Bollah have been killing people for just as long.

Being unequal doesn't make it any less tragic on either side. It was up to the world to set a fair division of land in 1948, and to police it properly.
Both sides have killed children and adult civilians; none of it should have been necessary, and very little of it is justifiable. I can't castigate one side and not the other.

A lot of what you say was true.

In earlier times, a lot of the attacks on Israel were unprovoked and unjustified, and it was legitimately defending itself. In particular, during the three decades between the Khartoum Resolution and the Oslo Accords, there's no doubt that the Arabs were the aggressors and the Jews were fighting a legitimate war for survival.

The Oslo Accords marked a turning point. There was an opportunity there for a legitimate and (probably, though no one can say for sure) lasting peace. There was a genuine desire for peace on both sides. Likud and its leader, Nutty Yahoo, worked tirelessly to sabotage the Oslo Accords and ruin the chances for peace. (This, incidentally, is not opinion. This is borne out by Nutty Yahoo's own published statements: https://imeu.org/resources/resources/be ... lution/114)

Since 1996, Israel has been stuck in the Age of Nutty Yahoo. Despite never having majority support, Yahoo has used his almost superhuman abilities to manipulate parliamentary negotiations and keep himself in control, and during that entire time there has been a ceaseless drumbeat to destroy and dismantle the (now virtually invisible) structure of the peace agreement. Almost shocking when you think about it. The Oslo Accords were signed 34 years ago, amidst such a huge groundswell of desire for peace on both sides. One man, and the stooges who surround him, has made it his life's mission to destroy that peace, and he has basically succeeded.

Now onto the current Gaza War. It may have started as a war. It may have started as a legitimate outburst of anger about the October 7th killings. But it didn't remain that way. I can't give you an exact date, but sometime in its relatively early stages, the Gaza campaign mutated from war to genocide. The IDF went from occassionally shooting civilians as part of the inevitable collateral damage in combat, to shooting civilians with complete impunity. It went from blowing up buildings that may have concealed military strongpoints, to just blowing up buildings at will. It went from starving areas that still held guerrilla forces, to just starving vast areas of Gaza with no military objective. It has gone from pacifying a resistance to simply crushing a people.


As recently as the first few months of the current Gaza operation, I was still defending Israel. I was still thinking in the realities of the past: collateral damage is unavoidable in war, you won't have urban warfare without occassionally blowing up a strongpoint, etc. But more and more testimony has come from many sources, including many that are unbiased, including many that previously supported Israel, as I did, that this is something new. 82% of the buildings in Gaza have been blown up, including all power stations, hospitals, water treatment plants, any facility that makes modern life bearable. The people have been gradually pushed back into smaller and smaller tent cities while their old homes are bulldozed behind them. This is the intentional eradication of the entire enclave. Once all the people are in an overcrowded tent city with no fresh water and no sanitation, famine and disease should finish off most of them, and the last few will accept deportation to whatever foreign land is bribed into accepting them.

This is not war. It checks every box for genocide. It is mind blowing that those whose mothers lived through Belsen and Treblinka should be doing this to another people.
