Soccer stadium- map idea

Postby misterman10 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:56 am

snufkin wrote:I want to see a referee and a couple of linesmen.
maybe there could be a negative bonus for attacking (holding) them.

to make up for the negative bonus they should be able to attack everyone on the field like real referees.

the other football (soccer) map drafts were more about the stadium than the game. I like this one better..

Alright, I wasn't really sure where the gameplay would go so I left it open. From the posts, I'm guessing that I shouldn't do anything with the stadium itself and instead make all the territories on field players or referees. Good idea with the referees

in a good way, i like how it is like a real soccer game, with certain players attacking eachother.

Maybe do something with the goalie, and points.

Ya, I wasn't sure where the gameplay would go on this one, I decided not to do anything with the stadium itself and only concentrate on the field. I'll try to find some way to incorporate the goalie and points.

Postby firewarrior101 on Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:02 pm

a map like of a earth wich is partly nuclear infested and you fight it out for the safe areas or u get bonuses if u control a portion of the infested parts and u get a "mutated" army bonus. also u might have to link up recources and factoriees to get bounuses.

European Parliment

Postby rebelman on Tue Aug 07, 2007 6:08 am

The European Parliment

strikes me as a very good idea to work on with lots of scope it could be a bit like the US Senate one that already exists.

Image

The make up of the parties is as follows: (would make good continents)

Image

You could further sub divide these by the parties that make them up.

There is also plenty of scope to factor in the other EU institutions.

Sounds like a good idea, more appealing to a European like me than the US Senate map. But are you going to change the bonuses after every election?

BTW, your image is old, here is the latest:

And here is a list with all members, by country and fraction:

I think it'd be better if it was like the US Senate map in that it doesn't use the real members so there is no need to depend on real world changes or events.

if there was a poll i'd definitely vote NO for just 3 simple reasons

1. the map has a identical theme and design to an existing map
2. the existing map isn't enjoying too much success so i doubt this one will
3. this quote from the rules:
A map should be ‘inherently unique either in game play, location, or style’
“In the beginning God said, the four-dimensional divergence of an antisymmetric, second rank tensor equals zero, and there was light, and it was good. And on the seventh day he rested.”- Michio Kaku

The map is in a different location

I think if we can get a good solid layout shown then everyone can make a better judgement

I then vote to REPLACE the US Senate map by this one, if it is not played much anyway. The European Parliament makes a much better CC map, with several (eight) different fractions, each made up from several parties from different countries. Boring American two-party politics is nothing compared to this.

New Map: Native American Tribes

Postby biotxlub on Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:15 am

Native American Tribes

Image

Territories: 41

This is a new map that I designed. Each of the territories within a dreamcatcher can attack each other, and the connecting lines show which territory in one dreamcatcher can attack a territory in another. Connecting lines also show which territories can attack feathers. As stated as the bottom of the map, feathers can attack each other. Bonuses are also stated. I'm completely open to comments and suggestions, so please feel free. I haven't written an XML file yet -- I'd like to wait and see if anyone thinks any changes should be made to the map.

Thanks,

Not good enough gameplay, in my opinion.
Having 6 continents that are all shaped the same will most likely lead to boring, predictable battles.

Give them different shapes and more variety!

First off, where are the bonuses stated? Secondly, I like the general idea of this map, but it is too symmetrical and even. I would suggest changing the number of territories in each country so that they differ from one another. Also, I think their should be more connections into each country. From what I can tell, all of the outer countries are way too easy to defend. Maybe connect the bottom left with the top left one.

Overall, I like the idea, but in terms of gameplay it still needs a way to go.
Congrats on your first map

EDIT: nevermind, I see the bonuses

List of bonuses is in the bottom right corner. Holding A gives +2, holding B gives +3, etc...

I actually did have the top left and bottom left connected, but for some reason, left it off. As far as connecting lines, I didn't want as many because I think that would make it more difficult to get around. But then, they could be easier to defend, yes. Wca, thanks, I was trying to decide on a way to skew the images so they're not exactly symmetrical. But, I really like how the dreamcatchers are divided up. I've tried different ways, but unless I decrease some of them... increasing the number of territories in any of them would make the names harder to see, and harder to read.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Needs Improvement

Postby Keredrex on Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:35 am

Try Using just One Dreamcatcher... But Make it Big... With Other Smaller Circles Attached and Some Other things for territories... Like Beads, Stones and Arrowheads... There are ways to make this work but what you have now is too Symmetrical ... and The Background has got to go

Maybe even put it next to a tomahawk with similar decorations and make a map out of that

Great idea Bio I suggest spicing up the colours of the dream catchers. some of them look too much the same. May i also suggest using snakes or something to connect the catchers rather than lines. perhaps american eagles or other birds of prey would look better than feathers? think about it.

Star Wars

How about a Star Wars map. I am no good at cartography so I won't come up with the board. But I thought it would be a great idea.

What about a Checkers map? No bonuses, but you can only attack at an angle, and you start out on either side with neutrals in the middle.

NATIVE TRIBES

Postby biotxlub on Tue Aug 07, 2007 4:23 pm

Native Tribes

Image

Territories: 53

I designed another map that I'm working on modifying at the moment (posted in another topic) but this is another that I'd like to post and get everyone's thoughts on. In the bottom right corner of the map, there is a list of bonuses for holding each area, as well as showing what the impassable border is. ALL other borders are passable, except the two blue ones. There is also a bonus of +1 for holding a symbol (dreamcatcher, tomahawk, teepee, arrowhead) or +4 for holding all of them. Connecting lines show which symbol can be attacked from which territories. They can also attack each other. The problem I see at the moment is that some of the tribe names are very hard to read, since the background rugs are dark, but that is easily fixable.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Thanks for the responses. I'm working on modifying the map. Goz, I like your line ideas. I hope to revise it tonight or tomorrow, and I will post a new version in this topic. Other than that, I posted a 2nd Native American map (called Native Tribes) and it's completely open to suggestions.

Thanks!
