I don't have time at the minute to respond to everything there, but as to having an unfair edge over other broadcasters - my nightmare, without having the BBC as a bulwark, is having TV controlled by private owners, like the newspapers. Most of the newspapers churn out complete lowest-common-denominator trash, and that is what I think would happen to TV without the BBC. You might say most TV is already trash, but it can get a whole lot worse.

Someone has to dominate TV in this country. Would Rupert Murdoch be preferable over the BBC?

Oh, and anti-nationalistic? The BBC's coverage of the monarchy is fawning beyond belief - but then that's part of the BBC's point, to be something the whole country can refer to, and help keep it together.

Now now stopper, this isn't soviet Britain. This is a free market economy.

If I wished to start my own newspaper called "Norse's Gazette", I would want to have the chance to launch my paper within a fair environment, delivering my unbiased, truthful voice of reason to the british public.

Not some government consensus message, feeding the pitiful minds of ignorant drones.

Exactly. There doesn't have to be a problem with a state-regulated (though not state-controlled) TV in a democratic country. It can't be used as a government propaganda machine like in the USSR.

Politically, I like to listen to this libertarian guy named John Ziegler on KFI 640 AM here in southern California.

My favourite talk show radio is Five Live. Great balance in opinions, the hosts are very rarely biased and they normally debate on good subjects. Also, 6-0-6 is the best sports talk show around and is always fun to listen to, but they really need Spoony back, hes better then Adrian Chiles.

Talk sport truely is the best talk station...The presenters hate each other, and are always bickering...the producers take the piss out of the p[resenters, by constantly making new "jingles" that slaughter the presenters....The producers make "jingles" that rip the piss out of the listeners...ie "Talksport, the radio station for men who are fat, ugly, whose wives don't love them anymore"...it's bordering on abuse some of the stuff....absolutley hilarious...

I despise most of the presenters, disagree with them 90 % of the time....but it is extremely entertaining...

The only draw back are the adverts, being a commercial unbiased radio station. Unlike the BBC that relies upon the forced subsidies from the british public, who in turn spew out government consensus messages.

Talksport is unbiased, in the sense that it employs the services of a range of political alleigances...ie George galloway and jon gaunt....this way they can deliver a well rounded host of opinions to the listeners.
