You won't be able to add all of the underground in...

If you are going to try then only choose a few lines...

good idea, but if it's going to be feudal london, then subway lines wouldn't fit. but it's a good idea.

Why is the kings castle in bromley?

And i dont think there was more than one duke in london.

and what you have there is greater london which wasn't around in feudal times.

Nice idea tho

Hi Unit. I've long been a proponent of attempts to make a London map, as I think it has a lot of potential. But I have some problems with where you guys are taking this idea:

1. This is an extremely anachronistic map for somebody who claims to know everything about history. You're trying to create a representation of medieval London, but you're using the footprint of a 21st century map. Even if we say that this map is set in 1300, the end of what is considered Feudal England, the population of London was about 1.5% of what it is today, and the settlements on the south bank of the Thames weren't considered part of the city. You shouldn't use this image at all.

2. The use of the term "Duke" is entirely inappropriate. The term does not refer to a feudal lord, and no Englishman was given the title Duke until 1377. I believe you want to use the term "Lord."

3. Why on earth is the castle where it is? Is that based on something? Because perhaps the Tower or the former palace at Westminster - both of which served as royal residences in feudal times - might be more appropriate and both are on your map.

4. You've spelled feudal wrong.

5. A map of a city as prominent in so many people's minds as London needs to somehow reflect the character of the city. Just as the New York City map keeps starting and failing, a London map is going to have many critics. You're treading on difficult ground.

Maybe you're getting hung up on the theme... it would be fun to do London in a specific time period, but it will require some research to do it right. Or you can do the UK in a specific time period, but UK has been done and again it will again require some research. Or you could just make a map and call it Feudal Lords, which would allow you to focus on the lords/vassals aspect of the map and not have to worry about getting the geography right. if you came up with some interesting game play elements this would be fine, and you'd have less resistance from those who have something to say about british history and/or geography.

I wish there were more city maps, including London, because they have good features for CC play and are popular due to their familiarity. But city maps are a tricky thing, because they are so personal to people. I just finished a city map myself, as a result of spending time in Berlin this summer, and from the number of things I got wrong it is clear to me now that it would have been a better project in the hands of a native Berliner.

No, I'm not saying that. You should make a map of what you want to make a map of. I'm just suggesting you figure out what your focus is, since over the past months you've demonstrated a lack of focus when it comes to the projects you work on.

is none a option?

look call this personally opinion but i think you should stop posting, sit back, and have a long think. Then teach yourself some skills with photoshop, then come up with a concept for a map. Work on it, come up with a first draft, post it. Sit back deal with comments, improve it, repeat last few steps. Then work it though till quenching.

But for now stop posting.

But then again that is my thoughts on the matter.

Red Rose, White Rose

Postby Piestar on Sat Nov 17, 2007 7:26 pm

Look up the War of the Roses, that was a time when England was broken up into interesting divisions, and the French territories were still involved. I think that would make for a good map.

Here is an example of one version of it; obviously too big for CC, but it still is a pretty good example...

I agree completely. I don't know how many times we have told Unit_2 to do this.

STOP MAKING MAP IDEAS. LEARN THE SOFTWARE FIRST.

No one ever takes you seriously because you don't ever do anything except come up with ideas you never do.

Please, for your own good and the good of the foundry, Stop posting ideas until you have actually worked on it for some time.

I have never posted an idea before spending time looking at the gameplay and layout. Do that first.
