Need serious help with ajax bob. I don't "get ajax bob

Postby andrew103178 on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:15 pm

I went to the ajax bob website and I just see text and have no clue what to do. I'm not a "techie" by nature, but I really love and enjoy this game and deeply miss pre-AJAX greasemonkey because it made it simple to enjoy this game even more and improved my awareness of how I play.

I'd seriously like to understand how to work this ajax bob thing. I have NO clue. Really, none. I don't program. I don't write scripts. There is no practical application for me, other than this game, to learn how to do these scripts and such and I really have better things to do than learn how to write or work them. I have NO clue. Please help.

I'm having to play against individuals who are more than likely using this script. Can somebody please help? I've read multiple pages in the forums and the ajax bob website and I still have no idea what to do. I do see a whole lot of "get ajax bob" and I go there and I don't know how to get ajax bob from the "get ajax bob" link. Ultimately, I don't "get ajax bob" in both senses of the phrase. Somebody please help.

Andrew :(

If you had greasemonkey before, then follow these instructions:
First, go to Tools up at your Firefox bar. Go Greasemonkey -> Manage Userscripts. Uninstall your old greasemonkey, by Troy, or what ever you had before... After you've done that, go to the AJAX BOB website:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/13076
In the top right hand corner, a wee bit lower, actually, you'll see a button that says "Install This Script". Click that, and you'll get a box that pops up. Just click "Install" and you're done.

If you didn't have it before, then follow these:
Go to http://www.getfirefox.com Once you've got Firefox, then download greasemonkey for it, via here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
After you've done that, go to the AJAX BOB website:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/13076
In the top right hand corner, a wee bit lower, actually, you'll see a button that says "Install This Script". Click that, and you'll get a box that pops up. Just click "Install" and you're done.

Once you've got AJAX bob, you might have a few problems. You'll want to play around with the settings on the side (map opacity, the position of the armies [you may be getting double armies on your map, just use that to fix it], what type of chart you want, that sorta thing) and enjoy. If you find that certain games are running too slow for you (namely Conquerman), then before you go into one of those games, go to the bottom right hand corner of your Firefox window, and click on the little monkey. Now he'll be black and white and frowning. That means that Greasemonkey is off. Just click the monkey again to turn it back on.

Ok, here's what you need to do:

1. Using Firefox (not Internet Explorer, or any other browser I'm aware of), install Greasemonkey at this link: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&c ... 5IGG0n-faQ
(Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension. To my knowledge, you must have Firefox to use BOB, or any other Greasemonkey script)

2. Install BOB at this link: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/13076

Now, when you are inside a game, you should see a BOB Menu on the left and extra stats, etc. below the map.

Hope that helps.

further conundrums

Postby andrew103178 on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:50 pm

After removing a script that says conquerclub (after clicking greasemonkey), I went to the website thinking this was what was blocking me. I clicked "Install this script" and I get something like what you see below...no box pops up whatsoever. Really.

That's the source code... Is the monkey smiling and in colour when you click "Install this script"?

continuing the conundrum

Postby andrew103178 on Fri Jan 04, 2008 6:52 pm

NO, "install" box pops up. I know greasemonkey works with firefox only. That is why, with my original message, I believe I did mention that I enjoyed playing using it. How would I have used it without Firefox? My point is this...no "install" box pops up. A bunch of text that reminds me of old Multi-User Dungeon games and that's it.

Make sure that Greasemonkey is enabled when you click on "Install this script". That is, click on the monkey to make him smile and in colour.
