Agreed.

Also, anyone have a decent theory about what Obama and Clinton discussed last night, in their (very private  )hotel room? Will they be running mates???

Anyone have an opinion about Obama's drug abuses?

Or about his lack of a healthcare plane?

Nah f*ck it, let's bet in dollars my man. After all, they're going to be worthless and replaced by Ameros soon, right?

Come on Jay, $10 says an election happens as scheduled.

Isn't $10 bucks American equal to like $10,000 Euro? This doesn't seem fair.....

Other way around.

What concerns me, is he seems to have great (however ovious) ideas, but does not seem to explain in ANY detail HOW he intends to actually DO these things. I wish he would just be a little more specific :/

Actually he does explain most things, but he just never seems to do it in any of his speeches.

Ofcourse, his ideas are not very detailed, but you could say that for basically any politician.

I hear ya, he is definitly playing politician. It's not like Bill Richardson, or Ron Paul, who go into too much detail. Wasn't there a famous actor eliminated from the Republican race, for not being able to explain any of his ideas?.....

What's weird is how no-one really cares.
Anyone see that footage of him sneezing on stage, and 10,000 screaming college kids cheer him for it? Seems that people think that the sun shines out of his ass. Let's get some real solutions, no more of this CHANGE(what?)CHANGE!(what?)CHANGE!!!!!!(what???).

Uhm yeah, everyone has the "right' to vote.
DC is part of the state of Maryland. However, DC itself has a reperesentative in the house of reps that's a non voting delegate.
It's all kind of screwed up. But yes, to answer your question, DC citizens can vote like any other citizen.

Hate?

Hm...I remember a post where someone talked about "darkies" and "half-breeds" and asserted that Obama was a muslim (because his middle-name is Hussein, duh) but didn't let that stop him/herself to claim he was indoctrinated by his christian church to hate America and Freedom.

Yeah that sounds pretty racist and hatefull.

Nester
Thats a fine generalisation but any post that surmises that one must be a Muslim ( and by implication a supporter of terrorism ) simply because of their name is at best ignorant. I dont know how biggoted Dixie is but his/her choice of wording is hardly indicitive of a free thinker, its fair to surmise that if something looks bad and smells bad then it is bad so its foolish to belittle those who have concluded that Dixie is a racist fool.

I didn't say I agreed with everything that Dix said, yes the burka comments were a bit far.
But...
If I remember correctly, Dix also called herself a halfbreed, so I think you're missing her point. Her point was to examine who Obama was aligning himself with and who he was dismissing. I think you guys are emotionally reacting to a word, and even a whole comment, that you've been indoctrinated to hear as bad. Any reference to race or anything racial is all too often construed as racism.
Perfect example:
A few years ago I was watching the "news" (lol, if you can call it that). On it they were interviewing a woman, black, suing a school district. Basically the teacher was making the children memorize SAT words (our college entrance exams). One of the words was Niggardly. Of course the white teacher knew that the word had nothing to do with the relatively insulting term: Nigger. It was Slavic in origin and meaning stingy. To be honest I'm not sure what the result of the lawsuit was, but when the interviewer explained to the woman that it wasn't related, her answer was "I don't care it's still racist"
Now this should have been the omen for things to come for me, because it's incredible that no one can say something negative about a race of people without being marred with the word racist, which carries with it it's own conentations and punishments.
I suppose I"m reminded of Voltaire saying "I disapprove of what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it."
Well, let her say what she wants. If you disagree with her, cool. But there's no need to throw around terms to attack her character.
By immediately calling someone a racist and pigeonholing them like that, well you're being just a bad as what you're insinuating.

Oh and PS: Frop, very good point...sigh

Mixed race kids often "choose a side" so as to fit in with their peers. Peer pressure is a huge force when one is in grade school and high school. Kids search for an identity, a group of peers they can belong to. For kids of mixed heritage, they often choose the side they most physically resemble, and even then sometimes they are just outcasts. So, if I'm of mixed heritage, and appear black, which group do you think I will fall into? Maybe not as big as an issue today, but it certainly was back when Obama was a kid. So it's not a matter of denouncing anything, but simply of a kid trying to fit in, like all kids do.

Postby got tonkaed on Sat Jun 07, 2008 9:14 am

Going back through the thread, ill echo that it is interesting that very few people give reasons for voting for their candidate, but most rather give reasons not to vote for the other guy. To me at least, there seem to be around 4 different types of posters in the thread, and all of them maybe are subject to a few flaws.

1) the i dont want to vote for obama because of a personal issue crowd. Clearly there is enough out there that people can take dislike with obama, but i find it somewhat interesting that these are the reasons not to vote for someone. Though you certainly arent required to pass a test when you vote, voting for or not voting for a particular candidate for some of the reasons listed in this thread...is somewhat disappointing.

2) the how could you say that responders to the first group. Of course its hard for me to be too negative toward this group, because they are by in large people i agree with on a lot of issues. But clearly it might not be doing anyone any favors to bring some of the complaints to the foreground the way we are. Some people are going to vote because of more superficial reasons, character assault on those people after a while gets repetitive.

3) the obama is going to really screw something up crowd. Seemingly a much more informed group as compared to group one. Frequently they will cite the lack of substance of obamas campaign at times thus far, and cite what they believe are the potential disasters of him being elected. This group i have a hard time saying much bad about, because although i disagree with most of what they post, they are making more of a point.

4) obama defenders/mccain is dangerous posters. Sort of like the mix of groups 2-3. While at times its hard to quite get the gist of what everyone is driving at, i think they are much closer to group 3 in that usually there is some point being made. I probably fall into this group as well, so maybe im a bit blind.

It is odd that very few people, even the people who are against obama, are saying very little about what they like about mccain, and i find this somewhat confusing, as given the two, its pretty clear who would likely be able to accomplish more of their potentially hazardous to the country policy program.
